Description:

KNemo - the KDE Network Monitor

A detailed review of the KNemo 0.4.7 can be found at Softpedia:
http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/linux/KNemo-Review-53310.shtml

KNemo offers a network monitor similar to the one found in Windows. For every network interface it displays an icon in the systray. It can also optionally montor traffic statistics.

Changelog:

Version 0.7.7

  • Add a global shortcut to toggle traffic plotters.

  • Find the interface of the default gateway again. (BR 328752)

  • Log statistics to the correct time if we're resuming from suspend. (BR 332086)

  • Fix translation word puzzles, missing contexts. (BR 329095, BR 329097)

  • Add an include to fix broken compilation when using libnl >= 3.2.26.

  • LicenseGPL

A fix for the encryption status is planned for the next version. Actually, the link nucleas gave for a fedora package already has it. Look for version 0.5.1-2 I think.

The link quality bug is new to me, but I see what's going on there and have already started working on it. Thanks for reporting those!

Just installed knemo, Gentoo has this in their overlay.

Thanks for porting this! It works the same as before.

Do you think to also migrate this to plasma? The system monitor graphs are looking good...

Also, a long standing request... Maybe the color of the icons can be changed to reflect the network traffic? Red/yellow/green/black

    Thanks for your work!

First, sorry about the delayed response.

Right now, those are both low priorities for me, compared to some of the other stuff that I need to take care of.

In fact, I'll probably first try the net load bars (also in the TODO) and see how that goes. I don't know when I'll get to it though.

As for the plasma widget, are you just looking for a souped up version of KDE's "System Monitor - Network" graph?

    Hi!

I know these are low priority :)

Just wanted to write these down...

Yes, there is a system monitor widget, but it does not work for dynamic interfaces (ppp), it does not hide the widget when interface is not connected/available, and more...

Also, having two application poll the network vars waste system and power resources...

So what I think is that we need one application that provide all... And as knemo provides the most functionality (dynamic interfaces, status, menu and commands, statistics) I think that it should be simple to somehow show the state of the load.

    Just a thought...

    Thanks!

Is would be great if You could add text with current UL/DL speed instead of icon. Just like in http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KNetStats?content=16264 - there's a selection graph/icon/text. Is it hard to achieve? Actually, that's the reason I haven't switched to knemo yet.

Would you mind sending me a screenshot of the tray text? The kde-apps page doesn't show that.

Just compiled 0.5.2 for my Kubuntu Hardy system without any problems and upgraded the old 0.5.1 - but now I can't see any traces of the app anywhere anymore :-( Although it worked like a charm with the 0.5.1 version I can't see any icons in the systray nor can I configure anything in systemssettings - the knemo entry isn't in the menu at all.

Any hints? KDE 4.2.2 here. Applying the patch in the above comment didn't change anything.

I don't see how any of the changes between 0.5.1 and 0.5.2 could cause that to happen.

What happens when you run 'knemo' from an xterm? Did you change the installation directory when you installed 0.5.2?
