KNemo - the KDE Network Monitor

A detailed review of the KNemo 0.4.7 can be found at Softpedia:
http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/linux/KNemo-Review-53310.shtml

KNemo offers a network monitor similar to the one found in Windows. For every network interface it displays an icon in the systray. It can also optionally montor traffic statistics.

Changelog:

Version 0.7.7

  • Add a global shortcut to toggle traffic plotters.

  • Find the interface of the default gateway again. (BR 328752)

  • Log statistics to the correct time if we're resuming from suspend. (BR 332086)

  • Fix translation word puzzles, missing contexts. (BR 329095, BR 329097)

  • Add an include to fix broken compilation when using libnl >= 3.2.26.

    Hi,

it would help a lot if you could submit a wish for this at bugs.kde.org. This helps reminding me...

Let me know which values you exactly need/want to see and where to get them. I have no experience so far with IPv6 so I am not sure if 'ifconfig' for example will provide the needed information and where I can get them using the sys-filesystem.

Any hints and help in making me 'IPv6-aware' is appreciated... :-)

hi, this is one great app, thanks for your work!

btw. beside knemo i use ktrafficanalyzer, and vnstat too, but miss one thing on all that apps, so i have one suggestion/request,as this is saved in ~/.kde/share/apps/knemo and ~/.kde/share/config, is it possible to make "export statistics to html etc" option so next time if i clear my ~/.kde or do another installation, i should be able to "load" exported statistics, so that i can continue to count my MB statistics where it was last time, would you consider this?

    Hi,

surely I will consider this. Not sure if an export to HTML makes sense as I am already using an XML format so that people interessted in other formats can write their own scripts to convert the XML file into something different.

BTW: right now you could copy the file from the mentioned directory somewhere else and copy it back after you've deleted your ~/.kde folder. Not that elegant but it works. :-)

    ps:
as a matter of fact i am doing "hard way" export, thats why i asked for help as i am not very good "coder" to patch it hehe

yes, 'sudo apt-get install knemo' then go to kde control center and configure which interfaces to watch

    Alt+F2 -> kcontrol -> Internet & Network -> Network Monitor

but i would suggest u to use latest one, from source (version that is in ubuntu repos is crashing on remove network cable)

if u want to compile it from source do this:
    1. download source
    2. sudo apt-get build-dep knemo
    third step:
    aldin@linux:~/Desktop$ tar xf knemo-0.4.7.tar.bz2
    aldin@linux:~/Desktop$ cd knemo-0.4.7/
    aldin@linux:~/Desktop/knemo-0.4.7$ ./configure --prefix=/usr; make; sudo make install

now just go to KDE control center as explained on begining

and when loging choose session KDE

These are common errors you are getting when compiling on a system for the first time. There are several so-called header-files missing. They are normally contained in packages with the ending '-devel' or '-dev' and must be installed once. For this new error you are getting you should check for a package called kdelibs-dev or similar.

Sorry, I cannot be more specific as I am using another distribution.
