Description:

KNemo - the KDE Network Monitor

A detailed review of the KNemo 0.4.7 can be found at Softpedia:
http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/linux/KNemo-Review-53310.shtml

KNemo offers a network monitor similar to the one found in Windows. For every network interface it displays an icon in the systray. It can also optionally montor traffic statistics.

Changelog:

Version 0.7.7

  • Add a global shortcut to toggle traffic plotters.

  • Find the interface of the default gateway again. (BR 328752)

  • Log statistics to the correct time if we're resuming from suspend. (BR 332086)

  • Fix translation word puzzles, missing contexts. (BR 329095, BR 329097)

  • Add an include to fix broken compilation when using libnl >= 3.2.26.

  • LicenseGPL

    This is just what I have been looking for but I am a Linux newbie.I am using Fedora Core 2 and I downloaded the RPM and installed it. All seemed to go OK. If I look in Control Centre services (Startup) I can see it listed with a tick next to it but the message says "Not Running". If I highlight it the button "Start" lights. But no matter how many times I click this button nothing happens. I have tried restarting the computer but the result is still the same.

    Any help please.

    Chris

    For a mor detailed discussion, look into Fedora specific forums or E-Mail me.
    But as a first try: start kcontrol in konsole, and look if you get error messages while you try to start knemo.

    Try starting kcontrol as root and starting the service. This worked for me... It could point to a file not having the correct permissions but I haven't found which one yet...

    the only thing i have to complain about is the color of the wlan icons. these red aerials look somehow as if something were wrong (i mean that red is always used for danger or the like - i hope you know what i mean). in addition one can't really see if the card sends or receives signals - the "blinking" of the aerials attracts too little attention.

    at least imho.

    Hi ogott,

    maybe you would like to try creating some better icons yourself?

    As you have seen I am not an exceptionally gifted icon artist. So I agree with you that these icons aren't very nice but I don't have the skills to make better ones.

    Any idle icon artist around?

    I really like the app (service).

    One thing that is kind of disturbing, is that when one logs off, the icons appear in the top left corner of the screen for a millisecond. Seams something with logoff interpretation is wrong. But this is not top priority. ;-)

    Keep it up!

    Hi Martin,

    is noticed this behaviour also with KLaptopDaemon. I am not sure if there is something I can do about it, because I use the standard KDE classes for applications with systray icons and I am not aware of anything I have to take care of when KNemo gets shut down.

    Any hint from a developer with more experience in this area is appreciated.

    Quick fix is:

    Open file interfaceupdater.cpp in folder 'knemod', goto line 401 and change it from

    regExp.setPattern( "Link Quality:([\\d/]*)" );

    to

    regExp.setPattern( "Link Quality[=:]([\\d/]*)" );
