Description:

audiokonverter is a service menu (and also a commandline utility) to easily convert from MP3, OGG, AMR, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WMA, RealAudio, Musepack, Wavpack, WAV and movies to MP3, OGG, M4A, WAV and FLAC in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It needs ffmpeg/avconv, oggenc, oggdec, faac, faad, flac, mplayer and lame to work. id3lib is optional for full functionality. Also optional are vorbis-tools and metaflac for handling other metadata. See README how/where to get that software.
Be sure about needed software when installing prebuilt packages!

Please vote for "good" if you like the program. There are many downloads with each release, but only a few votes.

Changelog:

fix for ogg decoding

LicenseGPL
(Tarball)
Ubuntu(for kubuntu (KDE4))
SUSE(from Packman)
Debian(built with checkinstall for KDE3)
other(generic RPM for KDE residing in /usr for KDE3)

 Usability

by ibc on: Jun 19 2007

Score 50%

It's a really useful extensión but IMHO with some usability issues:

- It asks the user for the folder to the new file. Why? The most common action is to leave the new file in the same directory but audiokonverter forces the users to navigate from his home again.

- A common option could be delete or mantain the "old" file, option which doesn't exist.

- Openning more and more dialog window for each question is not cool, it's a pain in fact.

- Opening a console is not cool at all.

So I suggest the following:

When the user invokes audiokonverter a configuration window appears (always).

This window contains:
- Destination directory browser (BY DEFAULT the current one in which the audio files are).
- Checkbox to delete or leave the "old" files.
- choosen codec own parameters (quality, bitrate and so).

When the user press "ok" the window becomes a new window containing:
- A cool bar progress (maybe possible?)
- Info about already encoded files (if hte users selected more than one).
- A log box (coul be a console kpart?) hidden by default with a button "Show details".
- A common "Cancel" buttom.

Regards.

Thanks for your suggestions.

- Default is the dir you selected last time, this is useful for USB sticks. Same dir is a problem for ro media. This is a matter of taste, some people will not be satisfied, no matter what I do.

- delete or maintain old file: ro media issues, too many parameters issue.

- kdialog is a nice tool, easy to program, therefore 3 or 4 single windows one after the other.

- progress bar from the output of several encoders is a problem. Progress bar for the amount of files is possible.

To make it short, I have neither the ability nor the time to program what you suggested, but you are welcome to do so.
I also like a nicer interface, but I cannot code it, sorry.

 AudioKonverter Is...

by BorgQueen on: Jun 19 2007

One of the most useful apps there is. Convenient well made. I think it gets lots of votes, however I've noticed that when I vote on something, it never seems to go up. Perhaps the voting function is broken?

I do have one question, the install keeps telling me I don't have mppdec installed, I do, its in /usr/bin. What version is it looking for?

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback! I guess the more downloads, the more votes you need, so it is very slow for audiokonverter. But percentage goes up lately.

The script is looking in $PATH of root, this may be empty in this special case. I will to try to fix this in the next version. Meanwhile ignore the warning if you know better.

You know I made a note of this the firs time I asked you about it. Sorry to bother you and thank you for the quick and patient reply.

So you know, in case it is something we are doing oddly. My distro is ark linux. You can join us at #arklinux on freenode.net if you have any questions. I would be more than happy to help. I always repay kindness. Develing for FOSS is a great kindness.

Please add this as line 42 in install.sh:

PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:${PATH}

This would be my fix for your problem.

same error for mppdec. I have 1.16, is it that its old or something? If it doesn't affect the apps function does the error matter? I have noted that audio konverter can't convert to ipod formats.

Also, is this want you wanted?

function performchecks {
PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:${PATH}
for prog in $NEEDED
do

its on line 42 according to kwrite.

Yes, that's the patch I meant.
What does "which mppdec" say for you and for root?
The version doesn't matter.
The installer doesn't complain about other programs?

What's the problem with m4a? Do you have faac 1.25?

I have mppdec in both /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin, but I figured out what is actually going on. mppdec wasn't exexcutable. I don't know why it was but that was the problem. As soon as I fixed that, the complaint stopped.

Well this was my fault, I'm very sorry.
I do so appreciate your time and patience with this.

It doesn't complain about anything else.

I have flaac 1.24, I'm going to upgrade and let you know.

thanks, and again, sorry.

 Audio extraction

Very nice tool!

Though when I try extracting audio from a .flv-file, the resulting mp3/ogg is always a bit too short, there are always several seconds cut off from the back. Is that a known issue? Using Suse 10.3 & KDE 3.5.7

Thx, Tobi

Thanks for your input.
Does it happen with all flv files? I have to check this, but probably I will not be able to do much apart from seeking another program to extract audio from video other than MPlayer.

I just tested this with a 13:33 video, everything's there. The video stop with sound and the WAV and the MP3 stop at the same point.
Can you show a link to a youtube video with problems?
Which MPlayer version do you have? I have 1.0rc2.

That's the .flv I was trying to convert. The mp3 still falls some 15 seconds too short when I use audiokonverter on it. Tried downloading it with the firefox download-helper plugin instead of youtube-dl, but it made no difference. ffmpeg worked, though.

Same here, though the missing piece is just about one or two seconds, due to shorter length I guess.

Tried another one by chance and had no problems with audiokonverter on that one whatsoever. Don't have a clue why, didn't change a thing.

Mplayer versions's the same.

Hi Tobi,

version 5.7 is on the way. It features a fix to your problem (MPlayer was the cause, being replaced by ffmpeg) and in addition the possibility to dump the audio track of a video to a file, so no quality loss there.
