Description:

audiokonverter is a service menu (and also a commandline utility) to easily convert from MP3, OGG, AMR, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WMA, RealAudio, Musepack, Wavpack, WAV and movies to MP3, OGG, M4A, WAV and FLAC in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It needs ffmpeg/avconv, oggenc, oggdec, faac, faad, flac, mplayer and lame to work. id3lib is optional for full functionality. Also optional are vorbis-tools and metaflac for handling other metadata. See README how/where to get that software.
Be sure about needed software when installing prebuilt packages!

Please vote for "good" if you like the program. There are many downloads with each release, but only a few votes.

Hi, I am a beginner with Linux. I have tryed to convert real audio files to mp3 using this audiokonverter but when right-clicking on *.ra file there is not the suitable choice.

What's the mimetype of .ra on your system? Get it by right-click, properties, tool icon. Then look at the window title bar.
Which distro do you use?

Add this to the second line of audioconvert.desktop with a comma and re-install. Every distro uses another name for the mimetype. Thanks for the trouble report, I'll add it as well.

I wonder if this software has real use... Ok, its nice to have a shortcut in the konqueror to convert files. But this shortcut only calls a command inside a terminal! It does not allow any settings, any control. It has no usability.

It is absolutely useful. I often need to convert mp3 files to wav and ogg. I used another converter, which was very nice, but nightmare to use. Then I used audacity. Now this menu looks much easier and faster to use.

thanks for the great tool.
I regularely have problems when I convert whole directories, containing subdirectories. In such a case it makes the directory-tree (or part of it) where I want it to and in the first sub-directory one of the files is partially converted (some 50 kB) and then it hangs. After pushing CTRL+C it creates the second sub-directory and a small file, etc
In short I cannot convert whole directories containing subdirectories.

Lost Tags

metaflac --show-tag=YEAR
and
metaflac --show-tag=GENRE
of a problematic file.

There is no YEAR tag but there is a DATE tag. The GENRE tag seems to be working. The tags look OK in Konqueror as well.

metaflac --list gave the following:

Thanks for the Date/Year fix. I'm still having a problem with Genre though. It appears that in FLAC genre is a string but mp3 genre is a single byte.

I've been trying to find a genre string/number conversion utility. The id3v2 utility will generate a list of genres and genre numbers. mp3info will set the genre by name but only supports id3v1 at this time.

Changing line 105 of the audioconvert script to use id3v2 instead of id3tag seems to fix the genre bug and didn't appear to break anything else (I have only tested a couple of files so far.)
