Description:

audiokonverter is a service menu (and also a commandline utility) to easily convert from MP3, OGG, AMR, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WMA, RealAudio, Musepack, Wavpack, WAV and movies to MP3, OGG, M4A, WAV and FLAC in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It needs ffmpeg/avconv, oggenc, oggdec, faac, faad, flac, mplayer and lame to work. id3lib is optional for full functionality. Also optional are vorbis-tools and metaflac for handling other metadata. See README how/where to get that software.
Be sure about needed software when installing prebuilt packages!

Please vote for "good" if you like the program. There are many downloads with each release, but only a few votes.

ffmpeg -i input.flv output.flac

of course there's lot's of available options in ffmpeg but the above works

the flv's I get from youtube.com

OK, I'll try to add audio extraction. Converting to AVI is not the task of audiokonverter (and never will be).

 Installation failure

 by chandraiitk on: Sep 29 2006

Score 50%

after login as root and running ./install.sh, a dialog box appears with three options: 1. for all users, 2. uninstall and 3. uninstall outdated file.

Choosing the 1st option gives a message installation cancelled. Also, after choosing another options, same message comes. I am using KDE-3.5.4 on Fedora-core-4 and have installed all the other packages (e.g. faac, faad etc.) before trying this installation of audioconvert.

Please suggest me a way to get rid of it.

Thank you.

if filename contains a white space, it hangs on command prompt (Konsole) forever with a message "Converting '# Now converting: /home/shekharc/Desktop/01 Those Were the Days.wma'". It would be nice if u fix it soon.

Anyway, Thank u for this nice app. please keep this work up.

Please confirm this by renaming it to a name without whitespace. Maybe it's a wma problem, I don't have such a file to test, it works with mp3s containing whitespaces, however.

Another thing I found::
I converted an mp3 into an ogg and then tried to convert this ogg into an "m4a for Ipod". The konsole displated following error:

Try faac --help. Mine is FAAC 1.24 and shows these options, maybe yours is outdated or compiled without support for these options. Hard for me to handle incomplete or outdated versions.

"$ rpm -q faac" gives "faac-1.24-3.fc4.rf".i.e. new version.
However, "$ faac --long-help" doesnt show oprions like "--artist" etc. I think I need to compile 'faac' from source with these options enabled. Anyway, following r the output of my "$ faac --help":

-r Use RAW AAC output file.
-P Raw PCM input mode (default 44100Hz 16bit stereo).
-R Raw PCM input rate.
-B Raw PCM input sample size (8, 16 (default), 24 or 32bits).
-C Raw PCM input channels.
-X Raw PCM swap input bytes

 shortname variable

 by laboua on: Oct 19 2006

Score 50%

Hi,
thank you for this excellent service menu. I've been using it a lot for the past few months!

One thing that I noticed is that when a filename contains more than one dots (as in 05. filename.ogg), the renamed filename keeps only the part left of the first dot (in this case only "05")

I've changed my soundconvert script, line 18, to:
shortname=$(echo $filename|sed 's/\.[^\.]*$//g') # delete suffix

I'm not sure about it yet, it seems to work. There might be a better way though...

thanx again :)

 .ape files??

 by chandraiitk on: Nov 2 2006

Score 50%

Hi, the app is doing well what it is supposed to do. However, I have a question in regard to .ape format. The README of the app says that it will not be supported because of the license issues. However, when I type $audioconvert on a terminal, it has following output:

Possible input formats are: WAV, MP3, OGG, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WV, APE, SHN, OFS.
Possible output formats are: MP3, OGG, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WV.

Could you please suggest me how to convert .ape music files into, say, mp3 using your application. I have mac-3.99-u4-b5 installed and it provides all the mac-lib files. I tried right-click on the app music files but the conversion service menu didnt appear.

Thanks in anticipation!!

.ape files are not officially supported (that's why it doesn't work out of the box in Konqueror!), but you can make it work. You need to define a file type and add this file type to the second line in audioconvert.desktop.

People using exotic formats are also often able to use the command line, there it will work if you have the mac binary in your $PATH.

 convert .wav --> fla

I can't convert .wav-files to .flac files
In my audioconvert.desktop are the following entrys:

[Desktop Action flac]
Name=FLAC
Icon=sound
Exec=konsole -e audioconvert -t f %F

audio/x-flac is installed in KDE

I'm using Mandriva official 2007 and audioconverter in konqueror, my GUI is KDE

Audiokonverter used from the context-menu in konqueror is able to convert .flac-files --> .mp3-files

What's wrong?

I guess the mimetype for WAV is not audio/x-wav in Mandriva. Then you won't get the corresponding action in Konqueror. Can you check the name of the mimetype for WAV? Usually found in the properties of the WAV file under the tool icon.

So the problem is you don't get an entry in the actions menu for WAV files? Did you install audiokonverter for all users or just for yourself? Do you have the program 'flac' in your $PATH?

Hello labrum,
Thank you for your answers.
Answer fot question 1.
Yes, that's right, I don't get an entry in the actions menu for .wav-files.

Answer fot question 2.
I'm not sure, if audioconverter is installed for all users I use only root (for administration) and another single user. I installed a audioconverter-rpm file with Madriva-drakconf. On this way it was necessary to type in the root password. Therefore I guess, that audiokonverter is installed for all users.
Using konqueror as root, I also don't get an entry for .wav-files.

Answer fot question 3.
The program 'flac' was installed in /usr/bin/ (as "/usr/bin/flac").
There is an $PATH-entry "/usr/bin".
I assume, that's enought for using /usr/bin/flac. Is this correct?

Please install audiokonverter in addition from the first download link. Unpack the archive and click on 'install.sh', then choose for all and enter the root password. The rpm I built does not seem to be compatible with Mandriva, I guess. The installer will also complain about missing things, if any. Try again afterwards.

On to my problem, when I try to install it tells me I don't have mppdec install and I do. Its in /usr/bin, version 1.95e (static) and 1.19z2 dynamic. Is it looking for it somewhere else? Am I missing something?

I appreciate your help, thanks.

Please ignore this if the app runs fine nevertheless. I try to figure out this problem. It looks like the PATH is messed up somehow when you become root during install.
