Description:

audiokonverter is a service menu (and also a commandline utility) to easily convert from MP3, OGG, AMR, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WMA, RealAudio, Musepack, Wavpack, WAV and movies to MP3, OGG, M4A, WAV and FLAC in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It needs ffmpeg/avconv, oggenc, oggdec, faac, faad, flac, mplayer and lame to work. id3lib is optional for full functionality. Also optional are vorbis-tools and metaflac for handling other metadata. See README how/where to get that software.
Be sure about needed software when installing prebuilt packages!

Please vote for "good" if you like the program. There are many downloads with each release, but only a few votes.

I figured I'd mention I have this sucker working with KDE4 as well; all you have to do is...

1) Put the files audioconvert.desktop and audiofrommovie.desktop into $KDEROOT/services/ServiceMenus/ (example: on Fedora, that's /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/).

2) Edit both of them to add Type=Service to the [Desktop Entry] menu.

3) Add KonqPopupMenu/Plugin to the list of ServiceTypes; this tells Konqueror & Dolphin that this is an Action Menu in the new version.

That's it. You don't even have to patch the scripts, since they'll use the KDE4 kdialog instead of the KDE3 one, no problem. These adjustments will get the menus showing up in the right-click menus like they do in KDE3.

They don't appear for me unless I add `,all/allfiles` (or another specific type) after the KonqPopupMenu/Plugin entry. In other words, the MimeType section info could be moved to the Servicetype and it should work properly.

This is on an archlinux system, so your results could be different.

Please redownload the file. According to a tutorial on kde.org, it must be MimeType, separated by semicolons.

-I have juste KDE4, no KDE3.5 in parallel.
-I not found mppdec and apetag for my distro (Mandriva 2009)

I download mppdec on musepack.net and I create /usr/share/service/ServiceMenus/ and /usr/share/mimelnk/audio/.
I run installKDE4.sh then I move /usr/share/service/ServiceMenus/* in /home/user/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/
(I do not know what to do with /usr/share/mimelnk/audio/* ?)

Now, it's work! :))

i'm using opensuse 11.1. w kde4 and installed all the packages it was missing but i don't know where to put "mppdec" so the installer can find it... i hope you caan help me, i loved this application on my old computer! :)

what I get when trying to install on kubuntu 8.10 - kde 4.2

I did a manual install by copying the files into the service menus directory but the menu is popping up on .ogg files, at least on Dolphin, but I didnt check out why yet.

Hello, a "problem" you may or may not care to bother with (if you haven't already addressed it and I missed seeing it). Although it might seem redundant I wanted to install soundKonverter in order to use its normalizing functions, but it wouldn't install with audiokonverter present - something about a "conflicting pipe" in a .desktop file for wavpack. This is with Kubuntu Hardy, KDE 3, and the ubuntu deb provided here. I'll look for another normalizing solution and continue to use this great tool.

This is useful and very well done, I've put in a positive vote.
