Description:

audiokonverter is a service menu (and also a commandline utility) to easily convert from MP3, OGG, AMR, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WMA, RealAudio, Musepack, Wavpack, WAV and movies to MP3, OGG, M4A, WAV and FLAC in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It needs ffmpeg/avconv, oggenc, oggdec, faac, faad, flac, mplayer and lame to work. id3lib is optional for full functionality. Also optional are vorbis-tools and metaflac for handling other metadata. See README how/where to get that software.
Be sure about needed software when installing prebuilt packages!

Please vote for "good" if you like the program. There are many downloads with each release, but only a few votes.

Changelog:

fix for ogg decoding

LicenseGPL
(Tarball)
Ubuntu(for kubuntu (KDE4))
SUSE(from Packman)
Debian(built with checkinstall for KDE3)
other(generic RPM for KDE residing in /usr for KDE3)

This is a real time saver for anyone who converts between audio formats (ogg > mp3 or mp3 > ogg). Perhaps you could add support for flac, mad, and monkey as well.

What are mad files? I only know the mp3 decoding library.
For monkey files I did not find a linux program.

Sorry to throw you off a little. You are right there are no such things as mad files as mad is simply a decoder and encoder. In so far as monkey is concerned I see that they have not produced a Linux version yet. Anyway thanks for adding support for flac. This will certainly make the program more versatile.

I found a monkey binary at http://www.personal.uni-jena.de/~pfk/mpp/index2.html#ape
But I doubt that many people have it installed since no Linux player can play those files.

Actually there is a plugin available for xmms to play .ape files. You can find it here http://web.mit.edu/ddopson/xmms-mac. Thanks for the link to the mac binary and both of these items work.

Excellent work! All formats FLAC, APE, MPC, OGG, and MP3 convert to and from very nicely.

Thanks, very good idea ;-)
simple using.

What's about mpc format, very useful, and the best in quality ?

The problem is that I don't want to bloat the servicemenu too much. I think the userbase for monkey, mpc, etc. files is too small to annoy a regular user with too many options.

I can think of extra projects like kwavencoder.mpc and kwavencoder.ape, but then only conversion from and to WAV, like with FLAC.

So I hope you have all programs installed and in $PATH. Please check it with "which oggdec" and so on.
If you installed locally, try installing globally.
Next thing is to try the scripts from the commandline: "anytowav file.mp3" and so on.

OK, I'll see what I can do about this. In principle it's easy if faac can do encoding and decoding.

 flac to mp3 one step

by famewolf on: May 6 2005

Score 50%

Can we go from flac to mp3 in one step as far as the user is concerned instead of having to convert flac to wav and then wav to mp3? I know the program still has to do the two steps but you should be able to save all the tag info from the flac and use it in the mp3...or did I miss something?

OK, you got me! I suppose I have to do flactomp3/ogg/aac as well... Then there should be all combinations.

This is a good idea and all, but is there another way to display that information, other than through konsole. Can a kdialog pop up, or that window that shows the output from an "Execute Shell Command" in konq filebrowser mode. Just curious, to see if there's a way to just have the output spit out on a qt/kde window, and then just have a button to close it.
