I've always thought we're all here open-minded and kind people. Seems like I was wrong.

Today I've received a letter from a man called Yassen Pavlov smack@vip.bg with the following text:

"I just wanted to let you know that I can't believe what an bitch you are. You asked for the guy who was maintaining the project you abandoned to give you admin rights and you never showed up again since he did so. Not even once... Thank you very much for that. I hope you'll die from cancer."

Well thanks a lot Yassen, this is what I actually need right now being a young mom with a little kid on my hands. See now, I'm here, are you happy?

OK, now to the point. I've switched to MacOS completely and have no platform to develop and test this script. It was a good experience and it was fun. I actually did not ever expected it would be such a success. But now I have to pass it over to somebody who wants to continue this development.

Mount ISO Image is an advanced script which allows to perform multiple operations with ISO, NRG (Nero Burning ROM), UDF (DVD), CUE/BIN, CCD/IMG/SUB (CloneCD), XDVDFS (XBOX) and MDF images.
Mount/unmount operations can be performed in two different ways: using kdesu or sudo. During the installation you'll be offered to choose a variant to use.
Note: If you prefer to use sudo, you should first choose to "Setup sudo config" in installation menu.

Since this project appears to be abandoned, administrators have gave moderation control over this project to me, pejakm. I intend to continue and to improve this script as good as I can. If the original authors decide to continue their work I will happily give them this back.

This is a _very_ nice example of what can be done with a few KDE menu hooks and a shell script.

I have only two suggestions...

1. Support KdeSudo as a means of getting root access (I managed to get it working by hacking the script to change 'kdesu' to 'kdesudo'.)

2. Try to ship with multiple files, for simpler installation. The install script is less than ideal because I can't even make it install to a given prefix. I need to be able to install to a prefix to make an ebuild out of this. One thing which can probably be done is for the main script to actually call a second script, where the second script is the one which runs as root. The first one just checks to see which type of SU is in use, and calls the second script using that method.

But otherwise, very nice. :-)

1) What's 'kdesudo'? I visited it's website but couldn't quite grasp the reasoning behind it - our install script handles 'sudo' settings in a way that wouldn't requre any frontends like 'kdesudo'. However, you're free to sed it like, say "sed 's/kdesu/kdesudo/g' -i install.sh" in your ebuild if kdesudo happens to be the default in Gentoo - I believe it's easy enough for an experienced user but for an average user adding yet another authentication mode is too much. However, if you can explain to me what are the advantages of using kdesudo alongside with sudo&kdesu, I will consider it like any other wish from our beloved users - i.e. "next version will have it" ;-)

2) Will it be easier for you to handle the install script if I will provide command-line options for most options? Say, '--prefix=/usr' and such? Just say so and next release will support them.

Still, there is one more thing I fail to understand: how is multiple files better than one "install.sh"? For at least in terms of ease of use it is certainly less user-friendly.

KdeSudo is basically exactly like KdeSu, except it uses sudo as the backend instead of su. So you get prompted for your own password instead of the root password, but the important thing is you still get prompted for a password. Editing sudoers to make the executable work without a password might not be a good idea because if some hostile user sits down at my computer they have an instant way to run root code like that.

KdeSudo isn't the default in Gentoo or anything, I just use it in preference to KdeSu since it's more user-friendly. I can have my root password set to some ungodly length, and never, ever use it.

Whoops, I forgot to answer the other half of the stuff.

I think the underlying thing is this:

Most ebuilds seem to follow this pattern:
(1) ./configure
(2) make
(3) copy files into /var/tmp/portage/... manually

That is, ebuilds often don't trust the install script which ships with the product. That's why multiple files are easier.

If I have an easy way to do it this way we actually don't even need the directory prefix since it can be done in the ebuild, and I'm fine to do that. Maybe if the install script actually installed all the resulting files in the current directory? I'm not certain which way is best.

Hi,
This looks like a great app, just what I need, however am having a problem.

It seems I can succesfully create an ISO image, but when I try to mount an ISO image (either old or just created by this tool), I get an error message.

"ERROR: Could not mount "/home/neo///usr/Mount-ISO (CD1.ISO)"! Check your system settings."

Check what system settings? I tried running the ./install.sh script again with option 1 instead of option 2 (sudo and kdesu) but I still get the same message.

Please help!

Please, answer some questions so we could find out what the problem is.

1)Did you install Mount-ISO as root or as a normal (limited) user?
2)What distro are you using? Is it SUSE (we know there are some problems with some versions of SUSE)?
3)start "konsole" and type the following command:

kde-config --userpath desktop

What's the output of this command?

Hi, herewith the details you asked for:

1. ran from xterm, using su to run as root.

2. Mandrake 10.0 (installed today)

3. /home/neo/Desktop/ (when not in as root, else it's /root/Desktop/

Cool script, though I'd like to mount those images to a custom location, for example /mnt/iso. Changing the first MOUNTDIR variables from mountiso.sh somewhat broke the script's functionality, as it now mounted images to location I preferred, but also produced error messages. It was unable to unmount images too. I did have priviledges to mount/umount to that location through sudo.

Could this option be added to the next version and/or could somebody tell me the correct way to modify mountiso.sh?

 XBOX FATX Iso format

Hi thank you for your nice inclusion of the XBOX Iso format with the use of extract-xiso.

The XBOX ISOs are a modified form of MS FAT called FATX.

Here is a link that explains the differences between FAT and FATX, hoping this helps in implementing...

I know this is slightly off limit, as the project is there to mount isos, but if you can use extract-xiso and mountiso parameters to actually upload to the xbox directly,using the passwords and ip and disk instructions (to be entered at the configuration stage if and only if extract-xiso is present/to be used) this would be the first "Do-It-All" Linux-Xbox-Windows Iso tool...(wink wink, nudge, nudge 8p )

As of "need" to implement, I hereby cast a vote/demand/supplication, as will I'm sure all Linux-and-an-XBox@home users do 8)

What sudo settings are needed for this program.?
if I do:
user ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL
I can use it but I do not want to give so much privilege.

when I do

user ALL=/sbin/mount , /sbin/umount
it is not working :-(
what for privilege does this program need ?

When I choose "mount iso image", and I put root passwd in kdesu, an error message appears saying it couldn't mount the image. But when I check the desktop the folder is there and the image seems correctly mounted. BUT, I am not able to unmount it if I try to do it using your menu, i get:
ERROR: Folder "/home/alex/Desktop/Mount-ISO (boh.iso)" exists but "/home/alex/boh.iso" is not mounted!
If I try the command line it unmounts correctly though...
