Description:

APT-based package manager for KDE

It will eventually provide the same features as apt-get with a KDE frontend.
.
For now, it supports update, upgrade, dist-upgrade and package install and remove.

Please read the TODO list at the bottom of the README file before asking for wishlist items.

When kpkgmanager is installed, kio-apt will let you install and remove packages.

IMPORTANT: if you install it from the sources, you SHOULD ensure that libqt-perl is installed on your system. Otherwise, the package install will freeze the first time a package uses debconf !!!!
(the debian packages depend on libqt-perl)

Changelog:

0.3.5 Bugfixes. Fixed compatibility with APT 0.6. Rebuilt Debian package because of name change in KDE packages.

0.3 Add KIO/Apt support in the stats dialog
Auto-hide (experimental)
Some bugfixes

0.2 Initial release

 0.2 problem

by Lapinot on: Mar 22 2004

Score 50%

0.2 will refuse running when run from within the K-menu or from kio-apt. It's a known bug, and the 0.2.1 release, fixing it, is waiting for my ISP to put its FTP servers back on-line.

In the meantime, you can edit
/usr/share/applications/kde/kpkgmanager.desktop
by hand and replace the Exec= line by
Exec=kpkgmanager %f

 hmmm

I really like it, but I had trouble using it for installing downloaded .deb's. still have to use Kpackage for that (while apt can't do it itself, I know dpkg can)

When will we have an graphical package manager for debian that can install local files AND solve dependencies for it???

mandrake's urpmi can, but I hate the fact apt-get can't. can you make it work???

or am I doing something wrong... ???

anyway, thanks for the work, I am sure this prog will rock...

but maybe you can make kpackage better instead of writing a whole new app? altough I like the interface of this tool...

and another thing - after first start, it gives an empty body. you might put some buttons there: "upgrade" "install software" etc.

and when installing, it'd be nice if there whould be an list to choose from...

yep cool app ;-)

There's more than 10k packages in debian. I don't really think it's wise to want to browse them by hand :p

If you want a searching tool which allows install, see kio-apt

 Version Number

Just a minor problem, but the version number from the about box says Version 0.1 when the deb version number is 0.2.

Other than that a good start

 the difference?

by soulrebel on: May 18 2004

what exactly does this program provide that kpackage doesnt? kpackage supports apt-get and dbpkg fully and has features like update AND it supports local files....
so what will this app do, that would make me want to change?
no offense i respect programming stuff yourself but i dont see the point in writing something that already exists...

The difference is launch speed and UI

I don't like kpkackage UI and I don't like having to wait when kpackage begins to run

Now, you can test both and choose the one you prefer :D
