Description:

A service menu for Konqueror that works in conjunction with a python script to allow the user to select multiple files and add them as attachments to an email using whatever mail client is configured. If a directory is selected, then its contents will be attached to the email recursively.

To Install:
0) tar -jxf attach-to-email-servicemenu.tar.bz2

1) cd attach-to-email-servicemenu

2) ./install.sh --remove-old
#Get rid of previous installations.

3) ./install.sh [--global-install|--local-install]
#Depending on whether you want system-wide or not.

The Readme file included explains how to set this up for different email clients.

So... um... how do you install it? The readme tells us how to make sure the files find the programs they need, but not where to put this attachToEmail.desktop file.

That's a good idea, but I can't think of a way for the program to know how to add attachments to arbitrary email clients. For instance, in kmail the argument is --attach, but in other clients it could be anything, and I can't think of a way to tell what that might be in each case. If anyone has any ideas concerning how to do this, please let me know!

In KMail 3.2 (I don't know about older versions)
kmail file1 file2 file3
works too.
Maybe other programs like evolution, sylpheed-claws etc. are able to do it in the same way, so you could read out the settings, which program is set by the user in ~/.kde/share/config/emaildefaults (EmailClient=evolution).

Although not existing in the action menu, I always use LOCATION->SEND FILE to send selected files. Works equally good for me.

However there's one thing, that could make this more interesting. If someone selects a directory LOCATION->SEND FILE always creates a ZIP file. It would be better, if it would ask me, if I want to create a ZIP, a tar.gz or a tar.bz2 file. Maybe this is something you could add to your implementation?

The difference between my implementation as a service menu and Location > Send as File is that with a service menu, I can right click on a link in a web page for example and send the referent of that link as an attachment more easily than having actually to open the link.

As for adding options to gzip, bzip2, or zip, that's a good idea. Now, the ways to go about doing this might be: the service menu has a sub-menu that lists the different options each of which calls the python script with different arguments depending on what to do (this would be pretty easy, but as far as I know, KDE < 3.2 doesn't allow sub-menus in service menus), or to offer the menu within the python script itself either using kde-bindings (which would require it to be installed), or kdialog. I would much rather go the sub-menu route, but for people without KDE 3.2, it could be very crowded. I'll think more about a good way to do this, though.
