 Compiz

This is sort of possible with Compiz, or by setting mplayer to play video in the root window. Sorry, I don't know the specifics of either implementation.

 I Hate Windows

by thoughtfulUser on: Oct 22 2008

Apologies for always ragging on Microsoft, but I think I would hate a "desktop" that is always moving.

I mean, sure, its great technology to be able to do that. But...what a TERRIBLE idea.

Philosophically, visual life needs empty, blank, negative spaces. Attention itself requires direction, by definition. I can't help but conclude this is exactly the kind of uncomprehending inanity that is wired into every fibre of everything that Microsoft does.

How can such total ignorance get so rich????? I am dumbfounded.

That's a bit of a tangent.

It's not about windows.

It's about having an animated background, like really slow moving clouds. Something non-distractive, but still fluid.

It makes the desktop more alive.

I really want animated backgrounds, and if you don't then choose a png instead of an ogm, okay?

*cough* matrix code *cough*
I believe that's probably the #1 reason for users asking for animated wallpapers, but that's just me XD

 Wallpaper plugin?

by Emdek on: Dec 13 2008

I think that it could be done as Plasma wallpaper plugin that could display video using Phonon. Or even slideshow could be extended to support also movies.
It would be useful, it would allow for example to watch movies during working, using transparent windows etc.
