Description:

Despite multiple workspaces being one of the great features in desktop Linux and KDE in particular, I still find it might offer a little bit easier way to manage your open windows, especially if the future KDE4 pager applet could visualize more, while at same time is not taking precious space when inactive. I did my best with the mock up screenshots, although I cannot imagine what it would be like if, instead of three or four, one has six or eight desktops.

That really is a great idea!

I think the base techniques are available

- moving window between desktops
- placing them somewhere ...

it should "only" be some resizing of components might be looking nice with fade/resize animations...

 Techn.ly possible?

I wonder if this is indeed possible.

As I know (I experimented with pagers in the past), it is not possible to create a real desktop view.

(1) Only the application without window frame may be known to the pager. Anything else is hard to do since a windeco may not be rectangular(!).
(2) As I understood, X.org may not receive screenshots of invisible windows and thus no screenshots of windows of actually hidden desktops. Therefore, a complex mechanism must be found to capture the window screenshots at desktop change.
(3) Though basically implemented, it is not possible to obtain the desktop background of hidden desktops from KDesktop.
(4) Else: Good luck!

For me, it is more important to improve the usuability (not only the look) of the current pager.
I.e. middle click to paste URLs and open them on the target desktop, dragndrop from the task menu to the pager and so on...

I know that you can move windows between desktops, but I find this idea fantastic. I really like it, and i really hope to see it in KDE4 although some are saying it is impossible
