Description:

why not equip kde 4 with a feature witch can combine icons to create new ones, for example, now for evry filtype you have a separate icon, why not make only one blank file icon witch you can combine with a smaller application icon inside. that way you can assign a matching file icon to evry filetype that exist and even don't exist yet without re-designing it evry time.the same thing with folders. assigning smaller icons in the corner of each folder makes browsing in your personal stuff very easy.
it is also very easy when you want to create customized icons. for now many iconsets are not 100 % complete because it is so much work.

 Good idea

I'd like to see this feature. The code is already in KDE (the arrow icon is combined with the file/dir icon to show that it's a symlink for example), it just needs adaptation to this need.

It is not the size of the hammer that counts. It's how you wield it.

 Already implemented

This is already implemented, AFAIK since KDE-3.3.
Have a look at "View" -> "Folder Icons Reflect Contents"

right..thanks for this tip, but it only affects directory with is content.
I think the idea is to enable this feature in filetypes too...would be very cool!

I think this idea is to combine icons to create those folder icons.

This is sure one of the best KDE4 Mockups, along with flipable windows and that flat kde 4 mockup. I really do hope it will get implemented.
But it must work on all icon sets.
