KDE4 Brainstorm

seasonal desktop (idea)

Description:

The idea is to make the desktop look depending on the current season and/or weather.

With such option the user could define a theme for each season and kde4 could fade from one to the other in some way (smooth or sharp? I don't know).
For the desktop wallpapers we could define a folder for each season/month.

For a live environment-integration kde4 could connect to a weather server and modify the aspect depending on the response (rain-sun-snow ...).

With the new philosophy of a really extendable kde, this feature could/should be released as extension.

I think there's no need to provide too much detailed configuration paramenters, maybe just 4 themes (with respective folders for wallpapers). All the details should be automatized.

I think that the desktop integration with the environment is a very important step. Such feature could become not only a pure aesthetic improvement but it opens a natural way to other extensions.
Once kde knows what's the weather around you, the possibilities are infinite.

( p.s: sorry for my english and for my poor graphic capabilities )

I think it won't be hard to write something like this for KDE 4's plasma.

 Good idea

There is an article on some interesting desktop evolution ideas:

http://pseudocode.org/?p=10

The author essentially talks about a desktop that would reflect the situation outside... time of day, weather, season, etc... useful for environments where users spend large amounts of time at the computer (think work, uni) without access to windows. The desktop could then "tell" them what's going on outside.
