Description:

Is there any plan about the selection of the KDE4 wallpapers ? Like a photo/artwork contest or something...

almost all the default wallpapers in KDE are a little bit "old-fashioned", KDE4 maybe needs some more "natural" and high quality wallpapers

(I have uploaded a screenshot because it seems to be mandatory to upload something...)

(just a little update because I was not very clear...)

...someone could advertise(in kde.dot, planet-kde... ?) for this and motivates some talented photographers to provide really "wallpaper-oriented" photo (with coolness, usability, GPL or any other accepted licences... in mind) (maybe they can mail their picture on a gmail account or something ?).

After that, someone in the KDE-look or KDE team could do a first sort and remove the ugly ones.

Finally, KDE's artwork and usability people will have a nice set of photos and could choose what fit the best for KDE4

but i would prefer a photo-wallpaper, maybe mixed with artwork. Just artwork-wallpapers is a little bit boring in my opinion. Actually, a professional, great photo of the reality doesn't need any additional paintings and makes a desktop looking really beautiful. For example macro photos. Sometimes realistic pictures are looking really artificial. Of course, some special effects used for photos are welcome. that's my point of view.

You're absolutely right, the "old-fashioned" default wallpapers of KDE are way too... boring? ugly? I can't describe my feelings when I see them, but I think they're just a waste of harddisk space. We need more beautiful, full-screen photographs.

But on the other hand, a wallpaper contest doesn't make any sense for me. The KDE developers can simply pick the best one of kde-look.org's wallpaper section, using the "highest rated" or "most downloads" info. Another section for a contest would just pollute the whole site with more not-so-nice wallpapers...

Just my 0.02 EUR. :-)

I don't care about Vista and I use this wallpaper because I like this kind of pictures... This is not related to the contest, it's just my current desktop
