Description:

I would like to see something like KDE Discover replace the K menu and kbfx. KDE Discover is a search based program that would be a front end for beagle, helping users launch and find applications (or anything else) much like in OSX. Menu are nice, but i think something like discover could be a more powerful and user friendly tool. The key to using it is not as an option with in a menu, but to replace the menu.

Discover would be more than just beagle, it would also run a database for application based off menu item (In other words, it would search in the K menu folder) along with rating and classifying applications like in amaroK.
Other feature would be:
*An added a Firefox Bon Echo like search bar help the use specify the search or it can be left to search all files. Also letting developers change and make new search categories.
*Each menu item would include a list of search words to help users find what they need.
*Menu items would include description of the application
*Items will move up the application list when run or by user preference (see sreenshot 3) The most popular application making it to the favorites.

 Slow to use

The biggest problem with search based ALIs is that they are really slow. You first have to switch to keyboard and come up with some good word(s) to search with, then, if you're lucky enough to find the right app, you must switch back to mouse to select it. I tried to solve this problem with my mockup (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=34997) which would use filtering instead of searching.

<selfpromotion>
for a filter approach, have a look here.
you can checkout it from cvs and try it.
it's however only a demo and needs some key improvements (though i use it everyday ;) ) but i won't maintain a KDE3 version (so next real improvements etc. for KDE4 if plasma doesn't provide this)

Tenor will be for kde what beagle is for gnome, and it looks that it will be very well integrated.
About your ideea: you can't use it with your mouse
