Description:

The general idea behind tabbed working is, that another layer is implemented between the desktops and the actually running applications. The applications are availible through tabs, like for example different websites in firefox. This gives several advantages:

1. performing administrative tasks without opening many consoles while logged in as
user
2. having often used applications grouped
3. keeping the desktops clear
4. being more homogeneous to often used applications like e.g. Firefox or konqueror
5. It could be possible to chroot groups of processes in an easy, intuitive way
6. it is more unique, but yet similar enough to MS windows and MacOS to attract new
users

For more Information take a look at the pdf-file under downloads. If you want to help me writing on, or you have ideas, that should appear in the document, write me an e-mail (patrick.dovermann(at)gmx.net), and I'll send you the file in odg-format.

looks a bit dark but the idea is very good! i like new intuitiv ways to use a computer (with linux ;)).
if you put the menubar and the toolbar into the kicker (a bit like os x) you could use all your applications in just one window.
but: what about drag&drop between apps at this use?

Drab and drop should be no problem, if it is implemented with a good handling of the variables. Nice idea, thanks. I will write it to the document tonight :-)

Maybe this idea can be done on the window manager's side, like some can do already :fluxbox for exemple.
