Description:

Was playing with Maya 6.5 (For linux, of course) today, and came up with this..
Needed a relaxing wallpaper for myself and my usual mood, so here it is..
btw, I\'m really new to 3D modelling, so please don\'t be too harsh on me. ;)

Changelog:

- Lowered the moon, hopefully made it more realistic.
- Removed a few pounds of weight from the ball. ;)
-Added sky texture
-A slight degre of change in the point of view.
-Added a tiny bit of light to lit up the ball..

This will probably be the last change I do on this one. time to move on. :)

It's nice, but i think you should add some fresnel to the ball's translucency to make it look more realistic. the water is great; did you make it yourself?

also: have you ever tried blender [blender3d.org]?

Thanks. :)
The ocean effect is a no-brainer built-in function in Maya, so I can't take credit for that, unfortunately. ;)

I'll update the picture later with fresnel effect and better texturing on the moon. Maybe a sky-background also would do nicely.

Found out the TGA version would give me some degree of translucency, allowing me to use KDE's background color function to brighten the picture.. Let me know if anyone wants a copy of that. :)

Forgot.. Yes, I've tried blender a while back, but didn't understand much, and didn't really have to much time to play with it... tried kpovmodeler later, and the spark lit once again. :) (And later again, Maya, and I love it. :) )

I think it's great.
How did you get the ocean to be translucent? I never figured out how to do that.

Thanks. :)
The translucent water was easy. (In Maya)
I simply edited the material attributes for the ocean and added some degree (about 60% i think) translucency.. :)

Anyway, I'll be updating the image in about 10 minutes, stay tuned. :]

you should also try out blender, it's rather easy to do translucency and reflections in it. great for modeling too.
also: the update to oceanball is awesome!
