Description:

Freecycle is a beat slicer running on GNU/Linux platform using the QT toolkit, providing amplitude domain and frequency domain beat matching / zero crossing algorithms.

It exports sliced audio chunks and generates a MIDI file which can be used to play the sliced loop, or you can jam with it as soon as you've made slices using a midi keyboard or sequencer.

Freecycle also exports AKAI S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .AKP files to be used with your favorite sampler, SoundFont files, and supports slice drag and drop from the application to the desktop.

It can process the audio inline using LADSPA effects, as well as applying envelopes to seperate slices.

Changelog:

This new release solves some bugs which were preventing the usage of Freecycle on 64bit platforms. It corrects the source code in order to make it Gcc 3.4 friendly and solves some minor bugs. Amongst other minor enhancements this release changes the naming schema of files on slice export.

 Dependency Hell

by storyteller on: Oct 9 2005

This is a great looking app, unfortunately it's build upon some poor dependencies. It would be nice to see portmidi and libinstpatch either included in future releases, or replaced as freecycle does not like to find them during compile.

Both dependencies are optional and can be removed in src/cond.pri

Freecycle being still in an alpha stage, it doesn't like to search for files on your disk ;)

You might simply post a link to most recent libinstpatch and aubio. Mine are old, missing many types that you use.

 Compiling

To compile freecycle 0.6alpha using GCC 4.1.1 (on Gentoo, x86) I needed to remove the parenthesis around float* on line 77 of soundplayer.cpp

 0.6.1.1 alpha woes

Compiles just fine on Debian Sid up-to-date system.

Comes up fine, goes through its initialization, main window appears.

Program either queries alsa (receives a very low latency!!) or connects to jack.

After a few seconds, it segfaults.
