Description:

actually its resolution is sxga+ (1400 x 1050) but its scalable. scale it or just center it unscaled. looks fine, i think. as ever i hope you're pleased (:

if anyone really likes my work, and wants a tutorial, mail me and i will write one.

Changelog:

1.0: first version, crappy ikarus
2.0: better rays
3.0: did some better effects and redesigned my logo, the ikarus
4.0: complete new sun. i think its fine now (;

Yes, it is a symbol of Japan's imperialistic past and although you don't mean anything bad that flag and what it stands for is an awful memory for some of Japan's Asian neighbours. Memories are long in China, Korea, etc. To them it's the same as posting a swastika would be for those that suffered in Europe.

I strongly recommend that you ignore those people who just see the historic background. It's just too complicated an issue, and you shouldn't have to deal with it. Like you said, you're just trying to make a nice picture.

If nothing else, you've made a design which is fairly different from the historical flag (I assume the one we're talking about is http://www.japanorama.com/images/navy_army_ww2_flag.gif). The lines are of variable widths, there's a background texture, and the sun has been changed in all sorts of ways. Anyone who's offended by that it just looking for things to be offended by.

Having said that, an orange-to-red gradient on those sunrays might look nice. :)

thanks for that nice comment. i think you're right. i think its dumbshit to see symbols in everything that's done. the artist (me) didn't mean some imperial stuff so it hasn't to be seen (=

 Japan

With or without variable width rays, it still looks too much like Japanese WWII flag. You should change the color of the rays, wallpaper will still look nice. And it's not I'm just looking to be offended, I am from Europe. You simply can't put swastika in any context except Nazi, even though swastika was used thousands of years before Hitler's Germany. Also, any symbol (black in particular) in a white circle on red background will still remind people of WWII German Nazi flag - no matter what you think of it.
