tasteless co.

Ch5 news had one of these '11' style pics on their news review, you know the ones, in the top corner. All I can say is, tasteless as fsck. Truly tacky and demeaning. Its actually almost funny in a cliche sense. Anyway I dont like it and it has absolutely nothing to do with LINUX as I can see. Really, really bad taste.

First I would like to point out that wallpapers are just for decorating your desktop. and this is a website for that very purpose, I don't see why every wallpaper should have something to do with Linux. That would make the site Extremely dull. Now for some CC to the artist. Are those the light tower monuments? If so, make 'em look more like lights! Make them fade a little bit at the top, instead of just ending like that - which lights do not do. Other than that, I'd sharpen it up, and that's 'bout it.

since when was a tribute and remembrance to a tragedy poor taste? perhaps you missed all the tributes they had on the 6 month "anniversary" of 9-11, but they erected two huge light sources where the two towers once stood. it was breathtakingly beautiful IMO and one of the best ideas for a memorial i have ever seen. this wallpaper is a reference to that memorial, which i think is in quite _good_ taste.

and while i do agree that this has nothing to do with linux, remember that this is a KDE site not a linux site. KDE runs on many more systems than just linux.

 Keep politics out...

I have every sympathy with those affected by the events of 9/11. However, since when was this a political site? Keep it to artwork.... Lest others pipe up about the several thousand killed by american troops in Afghanistan or the funding of the IRA for many years by American citizens...

 Politics?!

This is not about politics, doofus, this is about _human decency_. If you want to post a wallpaper tribute to your leftist cause du' jour, DO SO. Nobody's stopping you.

I'll second that this is an EXCELLENT wallpaper, and a fitting tribute to those who perished as a result of (insert result here). If it "offends" your sensibilities, don't download it. Just quit bitching.

I'm not from New York, and I'm not making this inot anything political. This is an excellent wallpaper as a tribute to the thousands who died in the attack and those who gave up their lives in attempting to rescue the victims.

 Look!

What is meant by kde-look.org?

KDE - the K Desktop Environment. What the K stands for is not completely known to me, but they say that it's the letter that stands after the L like "Linux" in the latin alphabet.

"org" means organization, mostly used as suffixes of US organizations and also open source pages.

"look" means "see!" as well as "to see" as well as "to know" or "know!" as well as "feel!" or "to feel".

Why is this piece of work a bad one if shown on a page like this? A page that has "look" in its name as well as, as far as I understand it "feel", why not upload things like this? I have not often seen pictures that drew my attention to them like these kinds of pictures. Maybe because I've seen them and I think of them to be very beautyful. Why they are beautyful or why not I let you decide.

This is not about politics, right. Just about beauty, i believe. But now I've learned to know that many poeple see beauty differently as others and fight them because of this.

Is this site not about look & feel? It's a question, not a judgment of the previous comments.

There are many idiots here who think every wallpaper must blatantly show that damn penguin or have a big "K" on it. First of all, KDE runs on systems other than Linux. There is actually an entire project for KDE on FreeBSD. Second, why do we (the users) need to be reminded of what we are running? I don't recall it being a prereqresuite that windows wallpapers have a big multi-colored flag emblazoned on them.

The "K" in KDE has nothing to do with coming after the letter "L" in the alphabet. From the KDE website: The "K" did indeed stand for "Kool" for a brief period of time back when the earth was warm and dinosaurs terrorized Ringo Starr. In October 1996, Matthias Ettrich posted a message asking for help creating a desktop for his girlfriend which he called the "Kool Desktop Environment", mostly as a pun on CDE (the Common Desktop Environment). They were Common, we were Kool.
