I don't understand why makers of wallpapers would place distro-specific logos on the images in the first place. By doing so, they are already limiting its potential usage.

It annoys me no end when I see otherwise nice wallpapers with the Ubuntu or Debian or Fedora logo on them. I am a Fedora user, and happily I don't see too many Fedora-specific wallpapers.

Ubuntu seems to be far and away the worst culprit in this regard.

What annoys me more is the influx if wallpapers that are images taken from the internet chucking the ubuntu logo on it and say its a new background

Ubuntu is the "hot distro" right now. I remember back when Gentoo was incredibly popular, this 'problem' derived from their community most. I don't really see a problem with it, though I would much prefer to see generic GNU/Linux (or hell, *BSD,) wallpapers.
