KDE Kommander Script

Description:

This kommander script parses the output from the sensor command and displays up to 5 measured temperatures as progress bars. The progress percentage equals degrees C. This makes only partial sense but I could not find a better widget. It also shows the text output of the command. The display is updated every second. The parsing should catch most sensor temperature outputs.

I wrote this simple script because the otherwise very nice ksensors program requires the /proc interface to the sensors package which I do not have on my system. There is lots of room for improvement. In particular, I am not sure how well the formatting/layouting works on other systems.

Requirements: sensors, tr, sed, grep

Please add a comment after you download, thanks.

Changelog:

1.2r3: made it so that the script can be executed as "sh kmdsensors.run" or by using chmod 744 to make it executable.
1.2r2: made the script an executable shell script which self-extracts the kommander script; the makeself script provided with kommander-tools does not work very well with kmdr-executor and has other issues
1.2: improved internals, now generalized multi progressbar handling, added dot "heartbeat" to let users know something is running
1.1: seeing 90 or so downloads, I added "what's this?" descriptions for most of the shown window elements accessible from the "?" in the window frame. Also improved layouting so that widgets properly resize.
1.0: initial version

 script issues

I found that with the default parser it is not possible to have a @if @endif or @switch @end block nested inside a @forEach @end structure. It took me at least an hours to figure out that this must be a bug in the parser, and not in my script. Maybe the new parser addresses this but I thought I should stick to the default.

It was possible to circumvent he bug by using an additional script widget.

The documentation to Kommander could be improved much, just by aggregating the various resources to one place.

Also, the ProgressBar widget is not ideal but I could not see a better suited one.

The text output is largely for debugging/development. I left it because one can easily adjust the window size to just show the bars.

The grid layout improved the layout but I am not sure how well it works on another system.

How would one go about making the progressbar size automatically adjust to the window size ? I tried quite a few of widget properties but to no effect.

Is there a way to programmatically construct new widget ? Currently I just hide unused widgets but there may be a better way.

Ok, I think I figured out the layouting features. For example, layout in a grid generally is nice. I learned that a grid layout as a child of a Group confuses the layout manager if the Group itself has a grid layout.

Well, now the resizing seems to behave well. Enjoy.
