Description:

i just had nothing to do so i made a mockup of gnome how it should look (according to me):

1. on the top, you can see a mac os style menu. this improves usability (fitt's law). gnome main menus (applications, places, system), systray and logout button are still where they used to be.

2. windows have shadows. yeah i know, this exists already.

3. on the bottom you can see the gimmie panel. it's really nice and already avaiable.

 Gimmi

I have seen a demo of this new task manager/panel but it is still very ugly. The functionality is pretty promissing though. Hope they'll apply some eye candy love on it before official release and inclusion in Gnome. It can take good advantage of the new technology avaialable today. ALso the Mac menu on the top panel is available. You just need to patch the GTK2 package and to install an additional panel applet to hold the menus.

 mac os panel

There already is a 'OS X-panel' available, it's a patched version of GTK, and I'm going to try it out as soon as I get home again ;)

My point being, the mockup, as you posted it, could be reality for everyone already today.

Yeah, there is already a GTK+ patch to get Macish menus on panel. But it lacks features and has a lot of bugs, bad alignment and all.

Looking forward to see this a emerging feature on next GNOME releases. KDE has this same feature since version 2. Its a shame to GNOME.
