Description:

About the XGL cube effect.

We have been watching some demos of XGL using rotating 3d cube effect to cycle desktops.
But why leave blank top/bottom faces ?
If this effect comes with new kompmgr in KDE 4.0, we could use the top face to log in sessions, and bottom one for the screensaver.

When the cube shows the top face, we log in, and a new cube is created.

Finally, we could cycle through open sessions, cubes floating in a KDE univese, hehe

Another nice idea is the preview of multiple desktops by unrolling the cube, so we can see them all at once.

I think it's the later video's if you want to "cut to the chase".

xgl in kde 4 would be awesome, I think it might be more of a distro responsibility than kde's though.

i want that! i've been using 3ddesktop for more than a year, but its simply not good enough. i still can't use the composite manager decently in my radeon mobility 9600 so transparencys and stuff like that is just not thinkable for me... i really liked the videos... seems promissing

 What with more/less?

What with more/less screens? I think one reason that the top/bottom screen haven't been used, is that if you've got three, five or some other "not four" number, these sides wouldn't been rectangular...
