a good rule of thumb for wallpapers is, make them as big as you can (1600x1200, generally), and then the user can easily bring the image size down, without making the picture look bad (either in kpaint, or just by setting the wallpaper to "stretch to fit", which will scale it down for you, if necessary). its hard, however, to make it bigger, and still make it look good.

Generally I agree.
But if it is a picture that has horizontal stripes in it for instance, simple rescaling would totally screw it up!

As pointed out earlier, because of the horizontal stripes 1280x960 was as close as I could get without messing up the aspect ratio. Just use the 'scaled' option.

Did you create the "Aqua-esque" pill in this picture or did you just use an image from Apple's web site? You see this effect ALL over the Net today, but only Apple seems to get it just right. Tell me, if you did this, HOW on earth do you do it!! :) I cannot for the life of me find a generalized way to produce this effect, and there are so many designs that I have in mind that would benefit from it. :)

Yeah I created it using PhotoShop 6. The actual PSD looks 3 times better then the resulting exported gif. Will have to find out how to to do the conversion without pixel loss.
