Description:

This is what i posted on the KGet bugzilla. If you agree with me, then please vote for this wish so it gets implemented. This is just a screenshot of my current configuration and a proposal for the default KGet look.

" The KGet UI is too confusing for new users and it needs to be simplified. KGet is not an app that is used for extended periods of time, so users do not have the time or the need to learn what the toolbar icons do. i recommend removing most of them and leaving only resume, pause, delete, restart and paste. The icons should also have text beside them to explain what they are. A person should be able to use all the basic features of kget the first time they open it, and more advanced features should remain in the menus.

Also the "Resumed" and "Count" lists should be removed by default as well because they are confusing and arent needed by the majority of people. "

Changelog:

Moved to KDE 4 Brainstorm

 I like simplified

I agree to remove the words; those icons are similar enough to those used on a VCR or media player that the meaning is clear.

Whats the Paste button for? That shouldn't be there -- put it on the context menu or under Edit on the menu bar

paste us usefull right now as drag and drop from firefox does not work correctly. Copying the link address and pasting works though.

If kget supported middle click to paste on the mainwindow (it already does on the systray icon) that would help.

You can use the "Drop target" for that. It think it's better than the "Paste" button. With the drop target you just drag n' drop a file and it starts downloading it.

I would definitly replace the "Paste" with "Drop target" icon.

I'm in.

thanks for the comments everyone.

And djworld, thanks for telling me about the changes in SVN, i did not know that. if you have SVN installed, can you post a screenshot?

anyway, it looks like the major problems have been fixed for kde 3.5, and the rest will be done for 4.0.

Nope, I don't use the SVN version. I use KDE 3.4.1 (and I'm waiting to see when the hell are the Debian developers going to release KDE 3.4.2 packages for SID). In fact I can code for KDE but I'm not a KDE developer, I just made the patch and sent it to the original KGet developer, then he sent it to the one who actually maintains it and he decided to accept it.

Maybe you didn't realize but you can customize your icon toolbar as you wish. So I don't know what's your problem.

Did you read the description? Correct me if I'm wrong but I understood that that's exactly what he did, customized the toolbar and proposed this kind of configuration to be the default. And I have to say I like it. These kind of tweaks here and there make the overall clutter of KDE better and better.
