Description:

New Menu in openSUSE with tabs looks cool, but (IMHO) are not very usefull.

My suggestion in the screenshots - sliding menu buttons. Only one click for easy menu's access.

I think kicker space is more important, your brainstorm takes too much space from the taskbar.

I uterly disagree.

My kicker intend to be a bit like this one, but without the sliding thing.

I just have my Kmenu, favorites, and most often used side by side, and that's realy cool compared to the kickoff suse menu.

Certainly better than that new task based monstrosity.

Still I prefer the standard kmenu

Although you made it look very ugly, this is actually a great idea. Just hover over over it, and you save a few clicks.

It should look a lot neater though :P

Don't like this.
When hovering in the SUSE menu to program you don't have to click, only hover... so what is the deferents? only the location of the tabs... Than I prefer the SUSE approach.

[off topic]
The program part of the SUSE menu is really not good, if you don't know where to look for a program you must click back and forward over and over again to find your program (and when clicking to fast back you start a program :() I think the back button on the right side of the programs have to be an hover button and not a click thing.

The SUSE menu is a nice menu (beside the branding) but the programs navigation is really @$#@$$(*&@...
[/off topic]
I prefer the Kmenu instead.

I guess you are missing that with this brainstorm idea you don't have to click in a first moment to see the tabs, cause you already see them.

yes I understand the idea, but...
-> proposal: hover and click or
-> SUSE menu: click and hover.
It's the same road.

so the idea is not so bat, but I think it makes no big advantage.
I also have the mention that I have always an computer and home button present on the kicker so maybe 2 menu's like the one in Gnome (SUSE)?...

I agree, but also I think that we might miss the point fewer clicks does not equal easier/better. It is what feels more natural and gives the user an intuative, yet powerful experience. In fact more clicks/steps may be more desirable if it organizes the interface in a way that seems more natural to the user.

 Keyboard shortcuts

And how would keyboard shortcuts work? If I have one complaint on SuSE's new kicker is the complexity to do simple tasks like browse for a program with the keyboard.

Would you have different keyboard shortcuts for every menu? One for the main menu and then navigate through the options (much like SuSE's)?
