Knotify for Pidgin

   0.1

KDE Chat Application

Score 68%

Submitted:  Jul 23 2007
Updated:  Sep 5 2007

Description:

This is a plugin for pidgin that uses Knotify to do notifications. This is for those who like pidgin but don't like the lack of KDE integration.

As time goes on I will be adding further integration and I also plan to add support for Knotify2 as KDE4 comes closer to being released.

Changelog:

0.1 ----
* Initial release
0.1.1 ----
* Converted to autotools (Thanks darkphoenixff4!)

This certainly fills a need, still a little buggy obviously, but good for a .1 release.

I will be looking forward to 1.0

 plugin path in .deb

Hi!

When I installed the provided .deb, it put the knotify-plugin.so into /usr/local/lib/pidgin, while my pidgin installation expects plugins in /usr/lib/pidgin. I ended up symlinking the library.

Is it just me, or is /usr/local/lib the wrong place to put the file?

Thanks!

The problem is the install path is hardcoded in the Makefile. I know because I had to write a HUGE patch to get it to build for RPM (I'm the package maintainer for this in Fedora).

Oh, if the original programmer is interested, I can send the patch I wrote. It's not RPM-specific, so it should work for DEB and TGZ based distros as well.

I'd be happy to apply the patch. If you could upload somewhere I can get access to it that would be awesome.

Here. Since I had a couple of hours to kill and meant to learn about this at some point, here's the plugin converted to use the GNU Autotools. So now you can do ./configure, make, make install and it'll move the plugin to the right directory.

http://crystalsanctuary.rpgsource.net/packages/tarballs/knotify-plugin-0.1.1.tar.gz

I tested it both the regular way (./configure, make, make install) and with the RPM builder (which technically does the same thing, but is somewhat more picky about certain things), so it should be good.

Thanks! I haven't had time to work with this too much but I'll try to get back on it.

I don't understand - what is the notify about "null" client?
And why notify repeated without wisible change of status?

Hi,

Integrating Pidgin and KDE is a great idea.

But I thought it would be nice to have something that does not need compilation, i.e. a Perl plugin that does just this.

So I made one myself: http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-knotifications
