 Qt version

I would be glad to use your app, but don't you think qt3 is old thing, and it's time to make innovations with qt4?

Have you configured your volume buttons correctly? Try running 'xev' to test it. Your volume buttons must yield correct XF86Volume* events.

I had your own problem. Try this: quit from kmix, execute kvolumeosd and then re-execute kmix. This workaround for me has solved the problem. I don't known what is the issue, but if I create a new kde user account the problem doesn't occur. KDE 3.5.9.

The exact procedure may depend on your distribution. You'll need to create a .Xmodmap file and load it on startup.
See http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Use_Multimedia_Keys for example.

 Compiz

App works great except one thing. When using compiz i get graphic artifacts around the corners of osd.

Screenshot:

I guess it's something about KDE's fake transparency and Compiz's transparency.

If there is no solution at the moment then perhaps you could add an option to disable rounded corners.

I see on your screenshot that you have Amarok running. Does Amarok's OSD also show this corruption under Compiz?

Never mind. I just tested KVolumeOSD under Compiz myself with different plugins enabled and did not get any sort of distortion. It must be some specific setting that causes the corruption for you.

In Amarok this problem doesn't occur, only in KVolumeOSD. I even tried default compiz settings and it doesn't help. The only way to get rid off this bug(at least the only i know) is to disable compiz.

I think it's a problem with shadows. Try going to the window decoration settings in ccsm and add !(name=kvolumeosd) to the "Shadow windows" field. Works for me.

 error when configuri

Hi, I'm a newbie in Linux. I got the following error when configuring:

(...)
checking whether uic supports -nounload ... yes
checking if Qt needs -ljpeg... no
checking for rpath... yes
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

Probably I need to preinstall some other package or something similar. If anyone could help I will apreciate.

Best regards,
Luis Santos

Hi.
You need to have the KDE and Qt development files installed. Most distributions provide those as separate packages. Look for something like KDE-devel in your package manager.
Hope that helps.

 Icon kmix

 by explinux83 on: May 14 2008

Hi,
I have a problem with kmix:

it shows mute icon in systray when the sound plays ... and it shows normal icon when the sound is mute.

I use pommed and KVolumeOSD in my macbook, but only pommed can switches off my volume because it switches off two channel that it isn't Master. Kmix can't switch off my volume, it doesn't work.

If I select "Mute" in Kmix, it doesn't switch off my volume, but kmix shows correct icon when I change the state a my volume .... but KVolumeSound shows the incorrect image

Very thanks, and you excuse my english
Regards

I'm afraid I don't yet quite understand the problem. You first say KMix shows the wrong icons and later you write the icon in KMix is correct but the icon in KVolumeOSD is wrong. Could you clarify this a bit?

So far this sounds like a timing problem to me. But I can't tell for sure before I'm sure I understand what exactly happens on your system.

Thanks.

I will of course port it to KDE4 once I have made the switch myself.

Although I have written a few small apps for KDE I'd still consider myself mainly a KDE user. And since KDE 4.0.x isn't actually intended for users I don't really see any reason for switching now already.

Besides, KVolumeOSD is a fairly simple app (I hacked it together in a few hours) so porting it to KDE4 probably won't take too much time:-)
