Description:

KDE 3.4 svg wallpaper

the k logo is the one of the official k logos from www.kde.org, also the font is Kabal Book Truetype Font that is used in the kde logo.
on the kde text there is the same crystal effect like on the logo and the background. people who want a other color should open the file in inkscape and simply edit it.
the versions number is easy to change or to delete. open the editable-svg-file in a text editor and nearly to end to the file you can change the 3.4 to 3.3, 3.3.1 or what you want. you can also change it to '', so there is no number ;)
(the ksvgiconengine can't show text, so you have to convert the text into a path to use it as kde3.4 background. inkscape is excellent for such things)
i decided for orange by the text color, in order to have a contrast to that blue/white.
cou can change it to with inkscape very easily.

so, hope you like it how i decided to make it ;)

i think the secound one is the better one for a background wallpaper, maybe i maybe make a splashscreen with the first one.

comments welcome...

(sorry for bad english but im not good in languages, not even in my own language)

Changelog:

- v 2.2 -

another fix for the ksvgiconengine. hope it was the last ;)

- v 2.1 -

i canged a bit on the first version.

- v 2.0 -

i changed the background a bit. i hope you like it. i think it makes is a bit more dynamic.
if you dont like it, tell me the old version is still on my pc ;)

- v 1.1 -

there are now 4 files in the zip-file, because i tried the wallpaper on a kde 3.4 pc and the plain text (versionsnumber) was not shown. so i changed it into a path.
there are now the editable versions, witch you can edit, but you have to change the text into a path, if on the ksvgiconengine does nothing change t the 3.4 release.
and ther is a 3.4 version, where every text is a path.

- v 1.0 -

I tried some changes (other text color, other background fading, without text, ...)
but I found no better solution.
i just changed the kde text color and changed a bit on the crystal effect of the background.

- v 0.1 -

first version...

 The KDE Logo...

I like the background of this wallpaper a lot, it's clean and stylish, but the KDE Logo and the text that goes along with it are just a bit too much I think. The K Logo looks like a big crystal icon, something a new user would try to click on if (s)he hadn't tried it already.

That was my main reason I forked this wallpaper and removed the "new" K Logo and reused the old one, which doesn't resemble an icon-like graphic. I also changed the text so it's plain white. The small gradient dash is a nice touch, which I left intact.

Honestly, I also liked the old background better, it was less distracting around the center of the screen, which would be a good thing.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not here to advertise my own derivative work, I just voiced my opinion here to illustrate a change that would make the wallpaper better in my opinion. If anyone wants to check it out, it's located on KDE-Look at this URL:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=19135

Of course, mad props to skullbooks for creating this already great wallpaper.

Oh dear. I posted this comment and all others disappeared which wasn't my intention. Can I get them back because now it looks like I'm very negative about this artwork, which I'm not, and there were already a lot of positive responses!

lol. you must be new to kde-look.org. the comments system is designed to file away comments according to date, so you don't have to scroll through a huge amount of comments. see the bar that has the date on it? click on it and pick another date, and all the comments will reappear.

windows on a mac? who the hell would want to do that?
