GNOME Shell Theme

Description:

WARNING GNOME 3.14 USERS:

This theme is based on Gnome 3.16 which is slightly different than 3.14, so if you apply this theme on your 3.14 system, many UI elements might not look the same as on these screenshots. Please update to Gnome 3.16 if your distro supports it in order to get the full look and feel.

DESCRIPTION:

A cleaned up and simplified Gnome Shell 3.16 theme inspired by GTK's dark theme layout and color scheme.

What has been themed?

Everything except the login screen as I haven't got the slightest idea of how to work with .gresource files, so this theme has to be run from the user directory and does not affect Gnome's login screen.

Useful Gnome Shell Extensions and add-ons that further compliment the look and feel:

Activities Configurator
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/358/activities-configurator/
(Custom Styling of the Top Bar)

Skype Integration
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/696/skype-integration/
(The annoying legacy message tray on the bottom has been removed in this theme, so this one comes pretty much in handy)

FreeSans Font
http://www.fontspace.com/gnu-freefont/freesans
(The shell theme uses FreeSans as a font as it compliments better the clean looks; on Fedora it comes pre-installed by default, not sure about other distros, so here's the link to it; also would be nice to set it up as an interface font as well by using Gnome Tweak Tool in order to make everything more coherent [FreeSans Bold 13 points for Window Titles, FreeSans Regular 11 points for interface type])

SCREENSHOTS:

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Install Gnome Tweak Tool and enable the User Themes extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/19/user-themes/.
Go to Appearance->Shell Theme and browse for the downloaded .zip file. The theme will get installed and you have to select it from the drop down list.

Cheers!

Changelog:

UPDATE 3.4:

Gnome 3.16 introduced something called symbolic app icons when they are active in the top bar, and of course, ONLY the apps that come bundled with it have them. Since I despise inconsistency, removed the symbolic icon for all apps.

 Question about Shell font

Nice theme! By the way, how can you change the shell font to FreeSans in Fedora 22? In FC21 we have gnome-shell.css but now it doesn't exist anymore.

Thanks! :)

About the font and gnome-shell.css, it still exists, but it's not a standalone CSS file like before, all the theme resources on 3.16 are compiled within the .gresource file.

But if you like to create a custom theme, you can still use a customized gnome-shell.css which will overwrite the styles of the default .gresource.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate you're liking it. :)

I'm using most of the time the dark GTK theme so I tried to create a more unified look and feel across the whole OS; did it mostly for personal use but later decided sharing it, why not? :)

I'm not using every aspect of the OS, so whatever all of you that use it might find that has been left unstyled or mismatching the rest, feel free to let me know, would also like to complete everything.
