Description:

Freevo is an open-source home theatre PC platform based on Linux and a number of open-source audio/video tools. MPlayer and/or Xine can be used to play audio and video files in most popular formats. Freevo can be used both for a standalone PVR computer with a TV+remote, as well as on a regular desktop computer using the monitor and keyboard.

Freevo is easy to download and install for new users. Most hardware is supported (graphic boards, sound cards and video capture devices).

The Freevo core is under heavy development. It is mostly written in the Python programming language which is very well suited for high-level control applications like Freevo.

 Freevo v/s MythTV

I've read over and over again that MythTV is a pain to install. Looking forward to trying out Freevo as an alternative "media center".

Thanks.

Well, my opinion is that MythTV is quite easy to install. Just follow the howto's on their wiki site ( http://mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page )
Anyway, it's good that freevo has released its 1.6 version as there is more options to chose from.

Freevo is a different thing.
You'll have maybe a less powerfull
web server, but with freevo you can
personalize codecs and formats with
which mencoder will record your shows,
and that's really useful for
analogic tv-capture.....

 KDE/Qt?

Is this KDE or Qt based? I'm not saying "get off the site if you're not using KDE tech." -- just curious as to whether it uses my favourite toolkit :)
