Submitted:  Jul 8 2004
Updated:  Mar 8 2005

Description:

DivXcalc is a simple DivX Calculator used to calculate the idea bitrates to use when ripping a DVD to achieve the ideal filesize.

Changelog:

An option for more than one CD was added (spanned rips), and there are smaller cosmetic changes (an application icon and tooltips were added, and the "close" button removed to avoid confusion).

 External app?

by jharper on: Jul 9 2004

This is really nice, but is it necessary as an external app? Why not contribute the code to another project that could benefit from DivXcalc as a useful feature?

Mainly because I use MEncoder for ripping, from the console, and didn't need it to be included into another application ;-)

If you would like to add it to something else, it's GPL ... so go right ahead.

with this sort of application it's best to make it an external one being there are alot of encoding programs out there.
just having it external makes you able to pick it and whatever encoder you want. instead of "can we have one for *insert encoder here*"

Bitrate is bitrate. Bits per second. It doesn't matter if it's bitrate for DivX, XviD, FFmpeg MPEG-4 or other codecs. They're all MPEG-4 codecs. That's also why the name of the application is a bit misleading (for example, DivX is not available for Linux anymore, Linux users mostly use FFmpeg MPEG-4 or XviD for MPEG-4 encoding).

Trying to compile the source and when doing 'make -f Makefile.dist' I get this;

This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

*** YOU'RE USING automake (GNU automake) 1.9.5.
*** KDE requires automake 1.5
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

hi,

simply change line 60(and/or the following ones) in cvs.sh file, in the admin/ dir of ur source dir to something similar like:

... | automake*1.9.* etc.

this error shows only a version conflict... and after adding the appropriate version filter to the script ... it should work and generate u a config file.

Well, it's an "older" program, I know, but I like it, so made a package for the newest Debian (unstable) ditribution.

Please pick it up here:

http://kwelltext.de/divxcalc_0.5.1-1_i386.deb

Thanx

Harry
