This is just a grayscale version of Everaldo's marvelous Conectiva Icons theme. Posted with his blessing.

 You can get that...

_easier_! Just open kcontrol -> Look & Feel -> Icons, Advanced and choose "Set Effect", where you can apply filters to the icons! It's very sexy to have B/W Icons that are in color when the mouse hovers over ...

...KDE has a lot of such nice but rather unknown features; i came over it when i was bored an hour or two. It would be interesting to collect those "hidden candies" and "document" them somewhere, so people don't have to do all the searching... maybe there are even "hidden" (== in config-files) options as well, or there are other useful hints... "tips.kde.org" ;)

no, not for linux. it was for windows, but the Type1 fonts don't seem to care what OS is rendering them :)

 Font instillation

How did you get the fonts to install? I've done the following with no success.

As 'root', create a new directory for your fonts in '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts' and put your new fonts in there.

Run mkfontdir /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/new_directory .This creates the files 'fonts.alias' and 'fonts.dir'.

Run xset fp rehash

Restart the X Font Server as 'root' with: service xfs restart

I also copied the fonts over to /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1/

and executed all of the previous commands without success. When I run chkfontpath, The directories containing the fonts show up, but they never appear in any selectable list of fonts. I'm using Mandrake 8.2 and Drakefont doesn't complain about importing them, they just never appear.

 installing fonts

couple things to check:

make sure your X server is loading the type1 renderer. your XF86Config file should contain a Load "type1" line.

also make sure you've added the path to your XftConfig file. it should have a line dir in it.

sorry, tried to add gt and lt lines in my comment.

the line for your XftConfig file should read

dir "/path/to/type1/fonts"
