AutoMSN Emoticon Scraper

   1.1.2

KDE Other Utility

Score 69%
Link:  http://
Downloads:  954
Submitted:  Aug 28 2005
Updated:  Aug 29 2005

Description:

This Perl script downloads the emoticons (smileys) from messenger.msn.com and sets them up for use in e.g. Kopete.

No icons are included here. This simply automates the process of downloading each icon and setting up an appropriate emoticons.xml file.

Please do NOT redistribute the resulting emoticon theme.

To run, cd to the directory you saved this file in, then

mv 28315-automsn automsn
chmod +x automsn
./automsn

If you're lazy, "perl 28315-automsn" should do the trick. #;)

To install the emoticons globally, run this script as root.

See http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=28271 for the Y!M version.

IMHO this script should be added to Kopete's default distribution.

That's a bit too much to hope for, but I'm glad you like it. Thanks! #:)

I had a lot of effort getting LWP installed but most of it was straightforward. But the actual script made things easy.

 small fixes

great script, but it has some problems:
1. i want it to be automated, ie no answers
2. specifying destination dir in first parameter doesn't work as <> operator "eats" it

so i've created patch which resolves these issues. the @ARGV shift is therefore done before <> and yes/no confirmation is not asked if stdin is not terminal. also the errors if running original code got buffered on screen and rather weird sequence appeared, so disabled also buffering ($| = 1).
