Description: Hello, I installed and setup Windows XP for the case I play to much around with GNU/Linux...I like to be flexible, to be productive on both systems. However, what I noticed on Windows was: all the GUI stuff appeal more solid. If I open some application, it\\\\\\\'s just there (in full). On KDE I have the feeling that I can see how the windows and some elements of it (toolbar and the stuff) are created, arranged...take Konqueror for instance. So please make it more solid :) I have this feeling on several computers...and severals distros. You too? Bye :) License: GPL

I really know what do you mean... I've noticed that gnome and windows xp (and vista too) are more "solid" than KDE.. Except that, KDE (that is more light that windows) gives a "heavy" feeling.

In windows many apps look inconsistent. Almost every developer thinks that it's his duty to make his apps's widgets look different: buttons with gradients, buttons with rounded corners, buttons with shadowed text... Look at Maple, for example, or at the official program for your mobile phone. There's no consistent look'n'feel in windows, in contrary to KDE.

It IS the size of the hammer that counts. Buy hammer enlargement pills today!

About KDE...
I have a list of inconsistence apps...
1. Adept (It doesn't look as a kde app at all)
2. KBFX Configurator (hmmm... it looks like a skinable app)
3. KRadio (chaotic and without usability app)
4. KMplayer (That's the worst look i've ever seen in a kde app)
5. Kubuntu Hardware Database (inconsistence app, though beautiful. I believe that this look should be default)
there are lots more apps...
Anyway, i think that we should create new UI guidelines focused on usability and desktop consistency. The developers SHOULD follow these guidelines and update their apps.

It's not like KDE force a user to be consistent with them or else their program will not run. =)

But blaster999 speaks about windows 3rd party apps. The native apps of windows (hmm... paint, calculator, explorer...) are very consistent

i think this is mostly due to painting speed. KDE4/Qt4 will improve that, so let's hope it'll help ;-)

No, it's not about painting speed but about the time when something is painted. Windows and Gnome wait until everything's arranged and done before they start painting, KDE though starts painting way too early, before everything is completely initialized.

painting "lag"

About Konqueror, i don't have any "lag" painting menus and others (not the floder/html/etc). It starts at same time i clik on it (and "konqueror instance cache" option unchecked).

About the style of KRadio and others, thats a bad GUI but paints ok. Only Krita looks slow painting. I've saw windows and gnome doing this too, for exemple, when you star photoshop, if you click or change focus, the loading logo looks without transparency or menus goes by.

But should be it improved? Of course, it must, and i think QT4 will do it.
