 Bad idea

Have you really thought about this one? Once you start rotating the cube along more than one axis, you would inevitably soon find yourself looking at an upside down or sideways desktop.

Fun? Perhaps for a few minutes. Useful? Decidedly not.

 One more thing...

In case you have a hard time understanding what I mean when I say you'd soon find yourself looking at an upside down or sideways desktop, take a look at your own mock-up. Imagine you're at the topmost desktop and move left. As you can clearly see, you'd now find yourself on a desktop rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

 suggestion

In spite of mariuslv criticism this is a cool idea. but I think he is right as he said that there will difficulties with rotating when you are on the top of the cube.
I suggest a workaround for it:
Instead of rotating left or right from the top of the cube it will spin down to one of the horizontal workspaces, then you can turn to the left and right.
and if you want to reach the top workspace (or the bottom one) you flip the cube upwards or downwards

..so there is a way to handle with it

 Swivel about centre

Maybe the desktops could automatically swivel so that they were always in the correct orientation.

Then maybe you could have 6 desktops.
