Re: Doesn't delete the file itself
Aug 31 2016  on content BatchFileDelete

Hi Diplo,

I fixed the behaviour when there is only one playlist-item. But in this case it's important, that the extension-dialog itself is closed before closing VLC, because of the asynchronous deletion.

Still, I could not reproduce the crashing on close while playing you describe. I'll look into it.

Regards

Thank you for testing! I'm sorry, it works on my Win8.1-VM with a random playlist of MP3 and VLC with my home-folder.

What is your VLC-version? I'm developing on 2.2.2 (linux) and 2.2.4 (windows).

I assume the lua-script and the exe-file are in your %APPDATA%-folder-structure, correct?

Are your files outside of your home-folder, maybe on a differnt harddisk? Are the errors or warnings in the "Messages"-View, when deleting?

Mh, another Win7-specific-option could be to rely on the "Subsystem for UNIX-based applications (SUA / Interix)" (see https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2391&751be11f-ede8-5a0c-058c-2ee190a24fa6=True)

That would be a harsh requirement for a VLC-extension and it's not supported anymore for Win8 and above. So a predictable dead end. And AFAIK I can't detect the Windows-version on Lua-level...

Hi DIPLOTEK,

do you like to try again with the current version 0.93?

Thanks!

Hi SeraphMX,

mind if you try again with the current version?

Thanks!

Hi,

as stated above, the script does not work on Windows at the moment. I'm experimenting with alternatives to the Lua "os-remove"-function, which is the culprit here.

Funny as it get's I managed to call random exe-files from VLC-Lua on Windows (like "calc.exe"), but delete commands are ignored...

I think I'll try to compile my own "delete.exe" for windows, which I'll call from the script. Maybe that works.

I'm happy for any other ideas. The lua-script to download here is open-source. :)

Hi Diplotek,

thanks for your testing on Windows! I'm running a linux-machine myself and therefore I missed two imported points.

First, the file-path was not created in valid way. That is fixed now.

But the second issue is, the Lua-scripting-API of VLC I use, does only support POSIX-file-systems for removing files. That means practically, no windows out of the box.

Maybe it works, if I let execute a "del"-command on Windows instead. I try that in the current version, but it did not succeed on my Win8.1-VM. But maybe you have more luck on Windows 7? That would be a step in the right direction.

Regards

Alternative extension
Aug 26 2016  on content RealDelete

This extension did not work for me, especially not in the context of manually batch processing a large playlist. Therefore I created my own: http://addons.videolan.org/content/show.php/BatchFileDelete?content=176275 (BatchFileDelete)

I did however reuse the style of the dialog from this one, so thanks for that!
