Interesting
Jun 17 2008  on content leaf kicker

I must say this is the first time I've seen a non-plain kicker image, and I love it.
But I almost think it repeats too many times, which kinda take away from the look. much like how tiled wallpapers are rarely used anymore.
There any chance to get one lets say, 4 times as long?

.
But~

"i know, it's only a raindrop on a leaf..."

but its a high quality raindrop on a leaf. lol

Re: if it wasn't ready..
Jan 27 2008  on poll Is kde 4 worth switching to or is it still too

I thought this too, but "Release early, release often"
You gonna *REALLY* test a beta? or even an RC?
releasing early and often makes it so people *REALLY* test it and get all the bugs out into the open. That's how things really become stable.
I am upset with the number of regressions. I won't name them here. A few of them prevent me from switching.

A few of my programs would have never been released if I had done so when I thought they were ready. The first version of my kdmtheme was simply a concept but it generated a huge response and I got tons upon tons of patches to fix things and add things. Because of that development on it got a huge head start. was highly rated, downloaded and stable within 3 days. I could have never done that prior to that, was a very new kde programmer.

Actually its been in portage for at least 6 days now.

Open AND Closed
Jan 17 2008  on poll Graphics Card/Driver

I run a dual monitor display.
Both are nVidia Cards however one is really old and not supported by the closed source one. I could use a older version, but then my newer card isn't support. So I use the open source one for my secondary display (older card) and the closed source one for my primary (newer card).

Usable But...
Dec 17 2007  on poll KDE 4.0 RC2

Being I have a rather odd xinerama setup and kwin has regressed in that area kde4 atm is almost unusable for me.
The plasma's panel is not very configurable yet tho I've only ever seen the left half of it.
Wasn't it a feature of plasma that you could drag applets to and from the panels? I have no interest with applets on my desktop. You might even say in kde3 if I didn't change my desktop ever so often I wouldn't even run kdesktop.

won't happen
Oct 11 2007  on content New theme installation systeme

For a few reasons.
#1 Package management is *not* KDE's responsibility it should be handled by the distribution.
#2 because package management is *not* KDE's responsibility it doesn't know if you have all the required packages installed.

Each of those has a reason there is no point click installation method, and that is they must be compiled and installed.
Compiled requires you to have a compiler and all header files used in each of the styles. Something that is not always on everyone's computer.
You cannot just ship a binary because that'd be specific to the distribution. meaning you'd have to have a package for each distribution figured out in your point-click method. Something that again is *not* KDE's responsibility.

In short, this idea will never happen. Sorry.

Focus
Jul 29 2007  on content KDE4 Dolphin

Dolphin has a focus and that is to browse your filesystem and do file related tasks.
It is not a media player.
It is not a CD Burner.
The more you go away from your primary focus, the more your application gets complicated, confusing, and it ends up not fully accomplishing its goals.
These were the issues with Konqueror.
While I love Konqueror and will probably always use Konqueror even as a file browser. may never even use Dolphin
I admire what Dolphin is and what they are trying to accomplish, which is not everything.

Possible bug?
Jun 18 2007  on content Serenity

in kicker when you have multiple windows of the same app open they group, click one to show the list.
For some reason whenever I hover over the entries the highlighted entry's text turns to white and the entry is not highlighted. if you throw the mouse around a bit you might notice a very slight flicker of color where the entry is getting highlighted then immediately changed back.
This is a problem for me as white on a light blue/gray is practically impossible to see.

And I just figured out the cause. I've made my Menus translucent. Disabling this makes the issue go away.
Oddly enough tho this bug doesn't happen anywhere else but in kicker's grouping menu.
