Hey, this is really nice :).

Myself and cimi had been discussing it, and I hope we will cooperate in the future...

Anyway, I decided to use Murrine as a base, because it is my favorite engine (and there were only a few things I wanted to change...). If cimi thinks I should not use his work this way, then I will do it in a way both sides will be happy.

Tell me what you need, and I will try to help as much as I can.

hey.

here are my benchmarks:
Murrine:
Total time: 23.37
Dyndyn:
Total time: 28.47

so I don't know why it was slow for you, it seems quite ok here.

anyway, I don't think it is because of the random code. I use a Hashtable for storing the stripes for each button, so it will happen only once. drawing the stripes shouldn't also take so much time.

I guess it's because of the highlights.

BTW, on neither of my machines, I noticed any slownesses.

I wouldn't mind cooperating with you.

How did you check it was slower?
actually, most of the randomizing is done only once. the buttons cache the effects so these would be calculated only once.

Could it be that the gradients I added are the cause of the slowness?

Sure,
if you are refering to the one in the lower panel, in ubuntu it is called: netspeed. I simply used my package manager to install it ;)

I love it!

Which program did you use to make this masterpiece ? (if it is ok to ask)

thank you!

the transparent windows are managed through transset and xcompmgr. you just need the composite extension in xorg.

there are packages for that in ubuntu.

But I use them only for screenshots. It is not fast enough yet.

you can see an explaination here:
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/DropShadows
http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_Xorg_X11_and_Transparency#xcompmgr_and_transset

first one is for ubuntu (speaks only about xcompmgr) and the second one is for gentoo. the second one has info about transset.
