systrey bug
Jul 18 2008  on content Silicon

"1.0:(...) other systray (I hate the bug that makes the icons look stupid on transparent panels!)"

I'm using openSUSE11 with KDE4RC1 packages. Only on this theme I have black background on systemtray. On other themes systrey is themed as expected. I use compositing on Intel card.

PS. Beside this Silicon rocks! I thing it is really the best one (or it shares #1 place with Elegance theme)

Re: Re: DoYouWantOpenSourced Balachka?

Jabber is superior protocol of course. However Jabber is a niche, everywhere. For example in Poland it is not easy to promote jabber because _everyone_ uses GGadu official client.

With Kadu we provide equivalent for GG without ads, jabber support is planned for 0.7.0 version - this support will be easy to use along gg contacts. I believe that developing similar to GG/Balachka IM and then providing easy to use jabber support will convert many users from proprietary protocols to xmpp/jabber. Talking "everyone use jabber!" is not working, for years now! Normal non-pro-users people won't use it only because jabber is superior, thay do not understand it. You need to provide them similar to Balachka IM with optional jabber which would be easy to migrate to.

GG already dominated Polish market and it is hard to compete with them. AFAIK Ukrainian market is less dominated by Balachka, that's good. It is great opportunity to start promoting Kadu as better Balachka version, then it would be easier to switch to jabber many more people.

Just try Kadu (v.0.6.x), we are really nice IM :)

If anyone is interested in providing support for Balachka inside Kadu just mail me: piotr(at)pelzowski(dot)eu

Regards
Piotr

DoYouWantOpenSourced Balachka?
Jul 15 2008  on group Linux in Ukraine

http://balachka.com.ua/
Is this IM popular in Ukraine? This is Ukrainian version of Polish, very popular, GaduGadu instant messenger.

Since 2001 there is an open sourced equivalent of GG for Mac and Linux -> Kadu. http://www.kadu.net/

Because Balachka is made by the same company (GaduGadu S.A) balachka protocol is almost the same as GaduGadu protocol - only servers addresses have changed. So it would be very easy to add support for Balachka inside Kadu. People from Ukraine would gain very good, open sourced, without ads IM for balachka protocol almost for free. I think it is great opportunity.

I'm speaking in the name of KaduTeam, authors of Kadu IM. We would love to cooperate with developers from Ukraine to add support for Balachka.

If you like this idea pleas mail me at piotr(at)pelzowski(dot)eu :) If you are a developer that's great, if you aren't one but you can help me promote this offer among Ukrainian developers pleas also mail me.

Regards
Piotr
