extensions and unix
Mar 27 2006  on content Differentiate extensions from filenames

I see some issues with this concept. There are not really extensions in linux.
Mime-types are based on the whole name, not on the exetension. For instance, "Readme", "Authors" or "Changelog" are recognised as mime-types but have no extension.

Well, it is just a gui for split, the good old unix command.

Athlon 600 MHz 600+MiB RAM, Mandrake 9.0
Nautilus is slooow. So is Konqueror, but at least Konqueror as many functionalities and is usable to do something else than thumbnailing images ;)

But Rox-filer is incredibly fast, and even with directories containing hundreds of files (/usr/bin or some /usr/share directories are good examples).

So I use a mixture of E, KDE, Rox, Gnome apps, Gtk apps (gimp), Motif apps. Still waiting for a fast, light and beautiful environment (Rox is heading this way... maybe XFCE too).

XP and transparency
Nov 11 2002  on Discussion

I don't know for XP, but Microsoft programs have a bad record for transparency support (and many other standard technologies like CSS). IE for Windows is the last browser not to be able to follow the 5 years old W3C specifications about transparency of PNG, for example. So I guess there might be no hope for you.

impressions
Oct 14 2002  on news New Liquid

Well, I guess aesthetics are mainly a matter of personal taste, but I'll comment anyway (I have no taste actually, so my comment is of few importance).
- I really like the new combox box, it's definitely much better. Maybe the arrow should be one or two pixels higher, more centered.
- the push button is also more "in volume" now thanks to the drop shadow.

- However, for the checkboxes and radio buttons, I would say I find the newer one too flat. The older ones look more in relief. It's the opposite of the combo box and push buttons, as there is no more drop shadow effect...
- Also, the dot and cross are not as thin as they were. I prefered them the old way.

Thanks anyway to have decided to be back and congrats for all the eye candy work. It's much more important that often thought.

confusion
Oct 11 2002  on news New Liquid

What makes you so sure Mosfet is a woman?
As I said before, two years ago or so, Mosfet wrote a small rant on his website saying he was a man. He also has a girlfriend. Finally Daniel sounds more a male firstname? (as opposed to Danielle)

But I'd like to hear your argumentation, if it's not just "long hair = female" (or worse "suceptibility=woman")
