Can't think of any user who will need such a thing.
Why should I fire up one more application and *then* paste its output to the console, when I can simply type
seq -f'wget http://site.com/dir/image%02g.png' 1 10 | while read s; do eval $s; done
In the console provided by konqueror, i.e. without even leaving the page. |

That's really good thing to see in KDE4...
However I looked at KOffice 2 contest: they're implementing much like the same framework for their office documents.
But why not to implement a ui-wide framework so that every application instead of drawing its own window sends requests to the framework?
This could be extremely useful for newbies.
Consider I've bought my first PC right now. My friends say I can edit documents on it. So I power it on... and select 'new text document'. A blank sheet appears in the middle of workspace, letting me to type.
What is KWord? I haven't heard about it; I'm simply typing the document.
When I want some DVD, I simply watch it. No Kaffeine, what is it? I simply watch it. And things like progresses and notifications as such.
So no more windows, desktops, etc - only a single gui framework for all my newbie needs.
As KDE is highly standardised now, it shouldn't be too difficult to implement it; and newbies will have a lot easier ui experience with it. |
