| Re: Re: Re: Re: apac Jan 4 2006 on Discussion | Very true, also part of the reason I was kind of interested in creating this project. Being a comp. sci., it is natural to want to rip things apart to understand how and why they work, which is why I think this project would be interesting. No, I would not release anything without first making absolutely sure I had it working properly (i.e. the security issues you mentioned). So no, I have no intension of releasing anything faulty and insecure (as I would hope no other developer would either). Also the reason I posted this message to see how much interest there would be in such an application as I would probably pour several hundred dollars in books and thousands of hours into research, development, and testing. All that said, you are absolutely correct when you say I need to understand what I am getting into. I will say, at this moment, I know very little about an Apache server. Also, the reason I do have a server is I wanted to further my knowledge about perl (cgi scripting to be exact) and how to program webpages. Consequently that grew into bigger curiosities. |

So I am looking at a software that only deals with Apache, not any other servers. However, I do want to have something like a checkbox that says "enable Sql" or enable "mySql" and fill in the information (pardon my ignorance on how sql servers work with an http server). Please anyone tell me if I sound like a moron on this (prefferably in an e-mail). But I just want a GUI specifically for apache (to enable cgi, sql, and php) but I want that to be an option of freedom for the user. |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | apache gui Dec 20 2005 on Discussion | I am currently running an apache2 server and while I can manipulate the .conf file for what I need it to do, it is quite often a pain in the ass looking through many forums trying to figure out how to get stuff to work. I know I cannot be the only person that hates trying to scroll through a text file that is over 1000 lines long. My question is, is there anybody out there interested in an Apache configuration gui... meaning no more text file editing. I am interested in starting this project, but since I a) dont know much about configuring the Apache server (or much about the server in general except for what I need it for) and b) am a college student This could project could take me awhile to get the first version launched. Let me know what all of you think. Oh, I forgot to mention a lot of you will want to kill me when I say I want to do this in Java, but that's what my school teaches, and I have no intension of trying to learn another language (i.e. c or c++) on top of what I already have to learn. |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | awesome! Nov 2 2005 on content KolourPaint | Thank you very much for this application! Gimp and Photoshop are good, but are limited in capabilities due to their complexity. They are unable to effectively produce the basic shapes such as circles and squares. This is a well build and professional looking application that should be added to KDE. Thanks again and keep up the good work! |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Good Job! Oct 27 2005 on content KSquirrel | I recently switched to linux and was disappointed it did not have a good image viewer (the one thing I will give Microsuck credit for). This is exactly what I was looking for! Good job and keep up the good work. One suggestion would be (and I know you have heard this before) is image scaling. Large images scaled down to fit the page are distorted. |
