| XWin isn't hijacked Aug 15 2003 on news | I just updated my site with a very nice response from Havoc. |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Widget engine done Oct 21 2002 on news New Liquid | The new widget engine is done. It took an extra weekend because of the new stipple code and some new widgets, but I definitely think it was worth it. The only thing left to do is new HTML widget drawing and updating the KWin style. |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Well... Oct 21 2002 on news New Liquid | You made a comment saying I should include other people's work in a thread about including other people's styles in Liquid. That is what I responded to.
As for patches, those are always welcome. For example, Liquid 0.9.6 has a patch applied to use the new installation location for KWin modules. I don't think the one you keep asking about will be applied, tho, because I am updating the Liquid default KWin style's layout code to handle both hiding unused buttons *and* configurable button order. The patch only does the former, not the latter. |
| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Your confused. Oct 20 2002 on news New Liquid | I'm not going to include other people's projects along with Liquid.
That is not an "advantage" of open source. People may like the "glow" decorations, too - should I include that as well? How about icon themes? There are several people may like - let's throw those in the Liquid tarball as well!
Of course this is silly. You download what you want to use. This doesn't mean we don't look at each other's projects and learn things, *that* is the main advantage of open source. But it does mean that it's stupid just to include things in Liquid I have nothing to do with when you can go download it if you want. It's called "choice".
As for KWin, I addressed KWin decorations already.

| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | The obvious answer.. Oct 19 2002 on news New Liquid | ... is that if you prefer that window manager style than use that window manager style ;-) You can easily mix-and-match widget engines and window manager decorations, using Liquid with KWin-ACE or Keramik's window decorations. Your not stuck with just using my stuff.
I've gotten a few emails asking me about this, so here is my take:
I will not include it in the Liquid tarballs because it's not my style or my code. I'm not going to start including everyone else's work along with my own. Go download whatever you wish to use - I won't mind ;-)
I did experiment with the style, tho, and even did a quicky translucent version of the Liquid KWin decorations. Doing the mask is way too slow for my taste, even with the rather clever optimizations KWinACE does. My KWin styles don't even use masks at all for optimimum speed, even tho some of my earlier ones such as System and the KDE2 default did. I guess it's a matter of preference, and KWinACE seems to have a lot of fans. If you prefer it there is nothing preventing you from using it. I code and include in Liquid the stuff *I* use and maintain.
The things I *am* doing for the default Liquid style are configurable button order and only showing the buttons that the window requires, (as many people asked for). The old window manager styles, LiquidOld and LiquidMack, will probably be in a separate tarball since I no longer use them anymore. |

| ![.](/img/trans.gif) | | Old tarballs Oct 19 2002 on news New Liquid | You can download the old tarball at:
http//www.mosfet.org/mosfet-liquid0.9.5.tar.gz
People using KDE3.0.x will need to continue using this version. The new version will only work with KDE3.1 beta2 or KDE CVS. If you got time and can compile it I'd do it. I'm really pleased with KDE CVS, especially Konqueror. The new Liquid will also be even more efficent, especially when using stipples, and better looking.
