download it first
Oct 27 2005  on content eclipse simple icon

Download this icon before you judge it. It is done in SVG and the translation to the preview on this site was not done well. While it may look very dark and crappy here, I assure you when I downloaded it I was VERY impressed.

Good work!

Boy the fonts on Windows suck! Look at those crappy fonts. Linux looks so much more soothing and clear!

smbmount servicemenu
Apr 7 2004  on Discussion

I have noticed lately an insurgence of service menu additions to this site. This is actually a very good trend since it will make konqueror ever more powerful.

However, one huge gap I notice is with samba. In all my experience, smbclient is EXTREMELY flaky and I find that mounting shares locally is a much more robust way of doing things. It would be so excellent if someone could put together a service menu for this purpose. Something to the effect of "Mount Samba Share", prompt for a target directory and go for it.

the spread
Mar 17 2004  on poll What is the KDE killer application? (Relaunched)

I want to explain why I choose K3B. Many of KDE's applications are simply amazing. Having to choose just one is almost unfair since there are many that have equal merit in my opinion. However, prior to K3B, GUI burning programs in linux more or less sucked. If you knew what you were doing, you could more or less get stuff on a CD, but it wasn't exactly easy. K3B closes this gap in a major way. I applaud the K3B developer for seeing this void and filling it.

As for the rest of the KDE project, my votes cannot be tallied as they are far too numerous.

Re: screenshots
Mar 15 2004  on Discussion

While I agree that browsers which use tabs are extremely useful when browsing the web (and believe me, I already use Konqueror and FireFox exclusively), I do not think that tabbed browsing is the solution to the usability issue I am addressing on this site.

It would be an extremely simple, as well as a much welcomed change, if screenshots could be launched from the list page, regardless of the browser interface. So while I appreciate your suggestion, I don't think it solves the problem.

screenshot viewing
Mar 13 2004  on Discussion

I love kde-apps.org and kde-look.org, but one thing has also peeved me.

Often times I like to cruise the site and checkout the latest and greatest, but I have to make extensive use of the "back" button. It would be most excellent if there was a "quick view" link from the list page that would show the first screenshot without having to descend into the project. Secondly, it would be nice to have a little navigator on the screenshot popup that would let you view the "next" and "previous" screenshots for the project.

These two improvements would significantly reduce browsing time and increase "trying out" time.
