Dont like RedHat? Me either.
Its crap.
So I use FreeBSD (router), Gentoo (desktop) and Debian (server).
Is that so hard? I know dozens of Linux distros which are crap. What difference does it make if its a major one or not?
Just dont use it. Any experienced Linux user will tell you that the only advantage Redhat has is a warranty for corporate organisations. It is inconceivable why anybody who doesnt need to have someone to sue if their distro breaks should use Redhat.
There are just BETTER DISTROS AVAILABLE. For god sake, any distro still based on an RPM system with no proper dependency resolution is just futile.
So to Mosfet, I say this. Please try to see the broader picture: Redhat is crap, other distros arent. So instead, come use Debian & Gentoo, and laugh with us about Redhat's blind Tom Foolery :) |

I see... I never bothered to check out the contents of the tarball really.
I wish someone would write a definitive guide to getting all the right settings turned on in X.
Im sure Im missing some of them, cus the performance of window-repaints/resizes etc on my blazing hot machine is not so good. Who knows why. |

Startup times are almost certainly due to runtime linking and (lesser so) config file loading.
The latter is probably only for *some* apps. Not sure if Konqueror reloads config on every new instance?
Anyhow, theres a lot of things that can be "wrong" with your XFree to make it slow as a dog, and its a real pain to make sure everything is right...
Btw, which closed source driver are you talking about? I use the one from NVidia.com which is a tarball and AFAIK is open-source? |

Remove the voting system if you ask me. Its causing more problems than it solves.
Clearly using an IP limit isnt working. With free dialup you can vote once every 20 seconds with a different IP. |

The voting on KDE-Look.org needs to be sorted out.
Its not "xx percent good".
Its "xx percent think its good".
THERES A DIFFERENCE.
Each person should rate the wallpaper 1-5 and the site shows you how many of each rating its got.
That way items which you either love or hate wouldnt show up in the middle etc. |

On a side note: Linux is based more in Europe and the eastern world than in America, so dont generalize when youre talking about legislation. You mean AMERICAN legislation, the rest of us dont have any stupid laws like that :) |
