Easy way to make a KDM theme:
Download a premade KDM theme (I recommend debianpool)
Edit the image files

Well, the generic way to install something is:
./configure
make
make install
You have to do ./configure to set up files make needs, and make you know, but make install puts the compiled stuff where you can use a simple command.
TIPS: Try "less INSTALL" and "./configure --prefix=[install path]" |
